Buffalo Grove to Stage National Night Out Event

Community members are encouraged to attend the Aug. 6 event at Willow Stream Park South.

Buffalo Grove residents are invited to Willow Stream Park South for a night of fun Aug. 6, when communities across the U.S. will celebrate National Night Out.

Buffalo Grove's event will run from 5-7:30 p.m. at the park, 651 Old Checker Road. This year's event will include free hot dogs, chips and drinks; live music and entertainment; and giveaways.

The event will feature a local business expo, a picnic in the park, inflatable attratctions and games.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department and Buffalo Grove Police Department will be on hand with displays. Nonperishable food items will be collected at the Buffalo Grove Police Challenge trailer to benefit local food pantries.

National Night Out began in 1984 as "an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back," according to the organization's website.
