The Red Hot Chili Poppers never gave up, but in the end, the team was defeated by Big Time Blue 25-10.
The two teams meet just once each year for a charity softball game at Emmerich Park. Players include village employees, Village of Buffalo Grove trustees and Buffalo Grove Park District commissioners, and members of the Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.
The athletes are randomly split into two teams for a Wednesday night game. The event raises money for Buffalo Grove’s chaplaincy program, which provides counseling services and comfort for those in crisis. It also serves as a kickoff — if that word is allowed in a softball story — for the five-day Buffalo Grove Days festival, which begins Thursday night.
