Wheeling Musicians Selected for IMEA Honor Ensembles

Students will perform Nov. 19.

The following outstanding musicians from were recently selected for the prestigious Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District VII Honor Ensembles. Auditions took place in early October and included students from more than 60 high schools throughout Northern Illinois. They participated in a District VII Musical Festival Nov. 12 at New Trier and will perform again Nov. 19 at Evanston Township High School.

Qualifying for the IMEA Concert Choir is senior Julia McCarren (alto), who was also selected for the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. 

Earning a spot in the IMEA Orchestra is senior Jennifer Garbarz (viola).

Membership in the IMEA Concert Band includes junior Chelsie Coren (clarinet), senior Heather Murphy (clarinet), junior Kaitlyn Nielsen (oboe), sophomore Matthew Kulczak (flute) and junior Kylie Gember (flute). 

Nine students from Wheeling High School were accepted to one of the four jazz bands. They are junior Omar Joya (tenor saxophone-Jazz IV), senior Caroline Vetter (baritone saxophone, Jazz III), senior Leah Malsom (bass, Jazz III), senior Alex Linzmeier (guitar, Jazz III), sophomore Ronald Roth (trumpet, Jazz II), junior Michael Genson (bass trombone, Jazz II), junior David Robertson (trumpet, Jazz I), sophomore Cesar Mendoza (trombone, Jazz I) and senior Andrew Jensen (alto saxophone, Jazz I).

Directors are Kirstin Snelten (choir), Alex Meza (orchestra), Brian Logan (band) and Mark Hiebert (band).
