The prize money can be used to cover any college-related expenses, including tuition, room and board, books, or a new computer, among other expenses.

The scholarship is offered by the Friends of the Vernon Area Public Library in honor of former Library Director Allen Meyer, who passed away in 2008. During his tenure, Meyer provided strong leadership that allowed the library to meet the ever-changing informational and technological needs of district residents. He set ever-increasing high standards of excellence for himself and his staff, and he valued his day-to-day interactions with the staff and public. Meyer enjoyed working with the community and aimed to provide the best library services possible. It is in this spirit that they award this scholarship.
