Stevenson Principal Steps Down, Replacement Named

has a new principal, following the resignation of John Carter.

The District 125 Board of Education on Monday promoted Troy Gobble to principal and named Gwen Zimmermann as assistant principal for teaching and learning. Carter, who has been , resigned to pursue other opportunities, according to a statement from the high school.

Gobble joined Stevenson as assistant principal for teaching and learning for the 2010-11 school year. He served in a similar capacity at Riverside Brookfield High School in 2009-10, and spent a total of nine years at the school. Gobble was chairman of the science department prior to becoming assistant principal, also taught physics. In 2006, Gobble earned the Outstanding Illinois High School Physics Teacher Award from the Illinois section of the American Association of Physics Teachers. He began his teaching career at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park in 1992.

Gobble earned a bachelor's degree in secondary science education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University (natural science-physics) and Benedictine University (educational administration), and is completing his doctorate in educational leadership through DePaul University.

Zimmermann was hired as director of mathematics in 2006. She served as chairwoman of the mathematics department at Hinsdale Central High School from 2003-06, and before that taught at West Chicago High School (1994-2002) and Glenbrook South High School (2002-03). Zimmermann won the 2001 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching for the state of Illinois.

Zimmermann earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Northeastern Illinois University, her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and her Ph.D. in mathematics education from Illinois State University.
