WHS to Host 14th Annual Hometown Celebration

At its Sept. 10, home football game against Palatine High School, Wheeling High School will host its 14th annual Hometown Celebration of the communities which make up its student body: Wheeling, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, Northbrook and Mount Prospect. At halftime, select community members and/or organizations that have a history of supporting the school will be recognized, as well as this year's Distinguished Alumni.

The school recognizes individuals and organizations that have supported Wheeling High School by providing scholarships or programs and activities such as Post Prom. This year's honorees are Northrup Grumman, represented by Jamie Collyer, and Larry Thomas from Artistic Framing.

The 2010 Distinguished Alumni are Dr. Caren Koretsy, Associate
Professor in the Geosciences Department and the Environmental Studies Program at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich.; and Dr. Mark Lathan, Composer and Music Professor at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove.

The concept of the Hometown Celebration emerged from Wheeling High School's Principal's Advisory Council, a committee of parents, community members, staff and students, devoted to fostering a spirit of community and school pride.  For more information about the Hometown Celebration or to get involved in hosting the event, contact Principal Lazaro Lopez, Associate Principal Ken Stiff, or Assistant Principal Steve May at 847-718-7000.
