District 214 Seeks School Board Applicants

Lenore Bragaw submitted her resignation this week after 11 years on the board.

The School District 214 Board of Education is seeking candidates to fill a board vacancy until the April 2013 regular school board election. The vacancy occurred after Lenore Gonzales Bragaw, who is moving out of the District 214 attendance area, resigned her position on June 22. According to the Illinois School Code, Board members must live within the district they serve. Bragaw joined the school board in 2000.

“Serving on the District 214 Board has been an honor and a privilege,” Bragaw said. “I have found the experience very rewarding and learned much about leadership and service.”

Board President Jim Perkins said, "Lenore had the respect of her fellow Board members for her willingness to speak her mind and vote her conscious even when she was in the minority. She always stood up for what she believed. She has served her community very well."

Appointed to the Board to fill a one-year vacancy 11 years ago, Bragaw has accomplished much during her tenure.

“Lenore has been an incredible Board member,” Superintendent David Schuler said. “Her legacy will include advocating for all students and staff, especially those who were disadvantaged in some fashion, and completely revising the District 214 policies when she served as Board president. She has been a dedicated servant and is wished the absolute best as she and her husband begin a new chapter in their lives.”

The school board has 45 days to appoint Bragaw’s successor. Community members interested in serving on the school board must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of the State of Illinois and District 214 for at least one year, and a registered voter.

Letters of interest should be submitted by 3 p.m. July 6 to Rinn Knoepfle, assistant to the superintendent, Township High School District 214, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005. All questions should be directed to Knoepfle at 718-7605.
