District 21 to Hold Public Hearing on School Holidays

Should classes be held on Lincoln's birthday and Casimir Pulaski Day?

In accordance with state law, School District 21 will hold a public hearing on Aug. 16 to allow public comment on the district's plans to hold classes on two legal holidays during the 2012-13 school year. The hearing will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the , 999 W. Dundee Road, Wheeling.

According to IL Public Act 096-0640, school districts are required to hold a public hearing when school calendars include student attendance on legal school holidays. The following list includes all legal school holidays: 

  • The birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (third Monday in January)
  • The birthday of President Abraham Lincoln (February 12)
  • The birthday of Casimir Pulaski (first Monday in March)
  • Columbus Day (second Monday in October)
  • Veterans’ Day (November 11) 

School District 21’s 2012-13 calendar includes student attendance on the following legal holidays:
