BGHS To Name Stadium In Honor Of Former Football Coach

Alumni varsity football players are invited to help dedicate BG's "Grant Blaney Stadium."

The Township High School District 214 Board of Education officially approved on Aug. 18 the naming of 's stadium, in honor of the school's first head football coach, Grant Blaney.

Under Blaney, one of the most successful high school coaches in Illinois state history, the Bison captured the 1986 Class 6A State title.  To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1986 State Championship BGHS football team, and to officially dedicate "Grant Blaney Stadium," BGHS will host a celebration and ceremony Sept. 23, in conjunction with its home varsity football game vs. Elk Grove High School.

Members of Buffalo Grove's 1986 varsity football team or any other BGHS alumni who played football for Blaney are encouraged to attend.

The 1986 varsity team will be honored, along with Blaney, at a pre-game reception inside the school, beginning at 5 p.m. Just before the 7 p.m. varsity game, the stadium will be dedicated "Grant Blaney Stadium" before the crowd. During an extended halftime, many of the 25th anniversary players will be introduced in a special ceremony on the field.

Former Bison football players on the 1986 championship team or others who played for Blaney at BGHS are invited to contact Assistant Principal for Student Activities Mark Schaetzlein at (847) 718-4018 or mark.schaetzlein@d214.org to participate in this event.
