Kilmer Park in Line for Makeover

Redeveloped park will include tennis, badminton, Baggo and basketball courts.

will get a new look next year, thanks in part to a state grant.

The plans to install two lighted tennis courts, a basketball court, Baggo court, new playground with a rubberized surface, and a new baseball field with a batting cage, benches and bleachers. Fitness equipment, a 20-foot shelter, skate elements, landscaping and drainage work are also in the plans.

The $788,000 project will be funded in part by a $394,000 grant from Illinois’ Open Space Land Acquisition Development (OSLAD) program.

The Buffalo Grove Park District first applied for the grant in May 2010, but was turned down. Officials reapplied in November, and learned this week that funding was approved.

“We are very excited about receiving this grant, which will enable us to dramatically improve Kilmer Park. When complete, this park will provide residents with a variety of new amenities that will be a great asset to the neighborhood," Buffalo Grove Park District Executive Director Dan Schimmel said.

The project is scheduled to begin in late spring of 2013 and be completed by fall.

Buffalo Grove is among 42 park and recreation agencies that will share nearly $12.4 in grant funds through the OSLAD program.
