Elect Sente for 'Genuine Leadership'

Letter to the editor

Voters of the 59th Legislative District have a difficult choice to make between two incumbent Representatives. We have known each of them for a long time, and have considered each a friend. But, Illinois’ problems are incredibly dire. We need to elect a legislator with character, sound judgment and an independent perspective; who puts the needs of the District ahead of selfish concerns and special interests; and who possesses the courage required to make tough choices and find meaningful solutions.

Carol Sente has brought a fresh outlook and independent voice to the 59th District. She reaches across the aisle to get things done. She works for meaningful change, defying party leaders when necessary to support true solutions to the State’s difficulties. She sponsored legislation to reform workers compensation, improve education and resolve state pension problems. She opposed tax increases and fosters the kind of cooperative business climate that creates jobs. Carol also enacted genuine, bi-partisan reforms to the State’s budgetary processes, bringing transparency to state finances. Her “Budgeting for Results” law is a step toward ending decades of skullduggery by legislative leaders, forcing the budget process out of the back room and saving millions by eliminating waste.

This election is not about party labels or platitudes. We need genuine leadership for a new and difficult era. We must send a pragmatic representative to Springfield; one who is accessible and listens to us, whose judgment we trust and who can make difficult decisions, solve problems and move the State forward. After much thought, we have concluded one candidate in the 59th District is best suited to that role. That is why we will be voting for Carol Sente on November 6.  We hope you will join us.
