Citizens Speak Out Against Buffalo Grove Weapons Ban

About two dozen told the Buffalo Grove Village Board why it should not pass an ordinance regulating assault weapons in the village this week.

Buffalo Grove residents — as well as a few visitors from neighboring communities — spent more than an hour Monday night asking the Village Board to vote down an assault weapon ordinance.

The attached video features clips of some of their remarks.

In the end, Bufalo Grove trustees voted 4-3 in favor of an ordinance banning machine guns in the village. By adopting the ordinance, elected officials will have the ability to alter it in the future.

The vote came as a deadline loomed for home-rule municipalities to put such legislation in the village code, after Illinois legislators approved the concealed carry law. Villages without a local ordinance will be subject to the state's law.
