Art is Blooming in Buffalo Grove

Framed mirrors and wooden boxes will be sold at the Arts Commission's "Blooming Buffalo Grove" event on May 14.

Wooden boxes and framed mirrors will be available for purchase at the Buffalo Grove Arts Commission’s second annual “Blooming Buffalo Grove” event on May 14.

The fundraiser was created last year to promote arts in the community while also benefiting a local charity. This year’s art sale will feature 100 wooden boxes and framed mirrors, which have been painted and embellished by local and professional artists. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Saving Tiny Hearts Society, a nonprofit that raises money for research of congenital heart defects in children.

Putting a unique spin on the traditional sale of art, “Blooming Buffalo Grove” allows an artist to showcase their talents by transforming ordinary objects into one-of-a-kind works of art. This year, local artists as well as award-winning and renowned professional artists have donated their time and talent to the event.

“Our boxes and mirrors are to Buffalo Grove what the ‘Cows on Parade’ were to Chicago,” Fran Sachs, Village of Buffalo Grove Arts Commissioner, said. “We have created a special way to promote the arts while also benefiting a special and important charity organization – Saving Tiny Hearts. We are thrilled to be able to donate funds to this very worthwhile cause.”

At its inaugural event in 2010, artists decorated nearly 60 wooden bird houses using every medium from paint to fabric to jewels to glitter.
