Shady Activity on Shady Grove Lane, a Not-So-Fun Fun Slide, and More

These were among the reports released by the Buffalo Grove Police Department Sept. 3-7.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from Publisher's Clearing House, who said the resident had won $5.5 million and a new Mercedes Benz. The resident was instructed to send $820 to cover taxes. The resident hung up, called Publisher's Clearing House, which confirmed the call was an attempted scam.

A resident of the 800 block of Shady Grove Lane reported Sept. 6 that his neighbors regularly exhibit odd behavior.  The resident said that he sees the couple moving frantically about their home at all hours, and when they catch the neighbor watching, they duck down and turn out the lights.

A resident reported that her young son and a friend were riding their scooters Sept. 2 on the 300 block of Ronnie Drive when an unknown male beckoned them to come over. Officers did not locate the subject.

A resident received a call from a male asking to speak to his 10-year-old daughter, who he wanted to "hang out" with on Sept. 3. An officer left a message for the caller and will follow up.

Police responded to a report of a man who told a resident on the 600 block of Maple Drive that he was looking for a dog in her backyard at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 3. Officers could not locate the man, and received no report of a missing dog.

Police responded to a dispute at 1:45 p.m. Sept. 5 between a Buffalo Grove Days carnival worker and a mother who was upset that her daughter was allowed to go down the Fun Slide without a burlap sack, causing a bumpy ride for the 3-year-old. The worker stated that the girl jumped onto the slide before he could place her on a burlap sack.

A resident reported that four unauthorized deductions totaling nearly $3,000 were made from her bank account between Aug. 28 and Aug. 30.


ALCOHOL

Lauren E. Rydzinski, 29, of the 100 block of Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence after police responded to a report of a woman slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle at 7:40 p.m. Sept. 2 on the 100 block of Buffalo Grove Road.

Jean A. Lepcin, 51, of the 200 block of Selwyn Lane, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and illegal lane usage at 11:55 p.m. Sept. 1 on southbound Buffalo Grove Road near Bernard Drive.

Sang H. Hong, 22, of the 700 block of Prestwick Lane, Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 1:35 a.m. Sept. 4 on Dundee Road at Weidner Road.

Daniel R. Imperial, 20, of the 100 block of Newtown Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 1:25 a.m. Sept. 5, after a nurse at a treatment center on the 0-100 block of South McHenry Road reported Imperial was intoxicated and uncooperative in being treated for a head injury.

Aaron D. Hister, 19, of the 1100 block of St. Moritz Lane, Schaumburg, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, illegal lane usage and possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 2 a.m. Sept. 7 on Dundee Road near Golfview Terrace.

Raymond M. Lopiparo, of the 1400 block of Rachel Lane, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 12:15 a.m. Sept. 5 at Lake-Cook Road and Raupp Boulevard.

Phihung Huynh, 52, of the 220 block of Old Hicks Road, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal lane usage and improper lane change at 12:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at Dundee Road and Trace Drive.

Aleksey N. Stepanov, 38, of the 26000 block of West Wooster Lake Drive, Ingelside, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, illegal lane usage and driving without insurance at 1:15 a.m. Sept. 5 at Dundee and Arlington Heights roads.

DRUGS

Joni Mora, 18, of the 900 block of South Fletcher Drive, Wheeling, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Dundee and Weidner roads.

Angel Eloisa, 18, of the 1200 block of Mae Court, Wheeling, was charged with possession of marijuana at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Dundee and Weidner roads.

MISSING JUVENILE

A resident reported that her teenage grandson had not returned home at 12:15 a.m. Sept. 3. The teen had told her that he was staying with a friend, but would not tell her where.

A resident reported Sept. 4 that his teenage son went to Buffalo Grove Days the evening of Sept. 3 and didn't return home. The teen's father later located the son.

FIRE ALARM

IHOP, 51 N. McHenry Road, was closed at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 3 after an automatic sprinkler system was triggered by a kitchen fire.

THEFT

A laptop computer and bag were reported missing Sept. 3 after they were left in a conference room at a business on the 2100 block of Lake-Cook Road.

A resident reported Sept. 5 that someone removed a political sign that was hanging on her fence, on the 800 block of Vernon Court South.


BURGLARY

A resident of the 600 block of Weidner Road reported someone accessed her car and stole the garage door opener between 6 a.m. and 10a.m. Sept. 5.

A woman who was caring for a friend's cat reported that she arrived to the home on the 1100 block of Miller Lane to find the front door ajar and the apartment ransacked. The incident happened sometime between 7 a.m. Sept. 3 and 10 a.m. Sept. 5.

A resident of the 300 block of Butternut Drive reported that someone removed her wallet, containing a license and $10, from an open passenger-side window between 9:30 p.m. Sept. 3 and 11 a.m. Sept. 4.

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in an open garage on the 500 block of Thorndale Drive and removed a navigation system mount and one glove from the glove compartment sometime between 9 p.m. Sept. 5 and 12:10 a.m. Sept. 6.

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked on  the 100 block of Pauline Avenue and removed a wallet from the center console between 10 p.m. Sept. 5 and 10 a.m. Sept. 6. The wallet contained the victim's driver's license, insurance card and a number of credit and debit cards.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone damaged the driver's side mirror and door of a vehicle parked on the 2800 block of Whispering Oaks Drive between 6 p.m. Sept. 3 and 8 a.m. Sept. 4.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident of the 200 block of Navajo Trail received a text message calling her names and advising her to look at her car at 12:20 a.m. Sept. 5. The resident discovered trash spread on the driveway.

BATTERY

Norman R. Heydenburg, 45, of the 1-100 block of Columbus Parkway, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 10:15 p.m. Sept. 4.

Jerry L. Tyson, 46, of the 400 block of Manda Lane, Wheeling, was charged with battery to a police officer at 1:05 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Buffalo Grove Police Department, after officers found him intoxicated on the grounds of Buffalo Grove Days after hours. While Tyson was waiting for a ride home to be arranged, he struck a sergeant with a closed fist.
