Police Pay Respects to Retired Chief

Arthur Dick dies at 81

Buffalo Grove Police officers paid last respects to retired Chief Arthur Dick on Sept. 3. Dick, who was 81, was the village's first police chief. He served in the role from 1958 to 1961.

The police department shared news of Dick's death last week as part of its daily e-news and crime update. The emailed notice included anecdotes from Dick's wife, Annette, who reminisced about driving around the village with the chief delivering mail, responding to emergency calls and driving people to the hospital -- all in a squad car.

In the notice, the department's current chief, Steve Balinski, called Dick's passing a "significant loss." He, along with other representatives from the department, attended Dick's funeral at St. Mary Church.
