Police Blotter: Underage Drinking, Cars Burglarized

ALCOHOL

Jia H. Shi, 20, of the 400 block of Swan Court, Deerfield, and Nathan E. Rubenstein, 20, of the 1200 block of RFD, Long Grove, were both charged with having a fictitious driver’s license, possession of alcohol by a minor and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 2:20 a.m. July 28 on the 1300 block of North Arlington Heights Road after an officer heard a vehicle driving erratically in the parking lot. The officer reported seeing both subjects stumbling around and fumbling with an ATM machine. 

ANIMALS

A resident turned in a stray cat that she found on Deerfield Parkway and Weiland Road. The small black cat had no tags or chip and was taken to Kings Kennel.

A resident turned in a gray Carin Terrier that she found running loose at 10:30 a.m. July 29 at Checker Drive and Dunham Drive. The dog had tags and was picked up by the person watching the dog for the owner. 

BURGLARY

A resident of the 1000 block of Whitehall Drive reported that someone entered her vehicle and removed $4 in change between 10 p.m. July 27 and 6:45 a.m. July 28. There were no signs of forced entry. 

A resident of the 1100 block of Whitehall Drive reported that someone entered his vehicle that was parked in the driveway, and removed an Apple iPod and an Apple iPad between 9 p.m. July 27 and 5:15 a.m. July 28. The resident stated that he locked the car and set the alarm. There were no signs of forced entry. 

COMPLAINT

A resident of the 1-100 block of Columbus Parkway reported that his neighbor parked a trailer on the resident’s property at 8 a.m. July 27. The resident showed the officer a plat of survey which indicated that the trailer was indeed on the resident’s property. A citation was issued. 

A resident of the 1-100 block of Columbus Parkway reported that a neighbor was playing music very loudly at 9:15 p.m. July 29. An officer could hear the music and spoke with the neighbor, who agreed to turn the music off.

DISPUTES

A resident of the 1100 block of Beechwood Road reported a tow truck was blocking her driveway at 2:55 p.m. July 28. The driver stated that he was there to tow a disabled vehicle next to the resident’s and it was taking longer then expected because the disabled vehicle was stuck in park. An officer suggested to the driver that he pull his truck forward until he was ready to tow the disabled car, which he did. 

A resident was contacted by a contractor at 1 pm. July 28 to talk about $350 that was still owed for work done on the resident’s deck. The contractor stated that he would undo the work if the money was not paid. The resident stated that he had to redo the contractor’s work because it rained the night the deck was stained. The resident agreed to pay the remainder to have the issue go away. 

A resident reported that on occasions he allows an acquaintance to use his car, but on July 28 the acquaintance took the car without permission. The car and acquaintance were located and the car was returned. No complaints were signed. 

LOST/FOUND ITEMS

A complainant stated that he lost his black tri-fold wallet between 5:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the 400 block of East Dundee Road. The wallet contained a driver’s license, debit card, Social Security card, and a green card. 

A citizen turned in a Coach zipper purse that he found at 9:55 p.m. July 28 in the  parking lot. The owner was contacted and she stated that she would pick up the purse the following day. 

ORDINANCE VIOLATION

A complainant reported someone using a backhoe to dig a trench in a backyard at 10:10 a.m. July 29 on the 1-100 block of St. Mary’s Parkway. An officer noted the trench, but no backhoe or operator. There was no building permit on the premises. The report has been forwarded to the Building and Zoning department.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/VEHICLE

A citizen reported that while taking a walk at 11:25 a.m. July 27 near Aptakisic and Buffalo Grove roads, a male subject came out of the bushes and walked behind her. An officer located the subject who stated that he lost his Frisbee in the bushes and was looking for it. The subject cleared the police state database.

A resident of the 700 block of Lehigh Lane reported that her daughter saw a person standing in the yard at 9:20 p.m. July 29. The person was gone when officers arrived. 

An employee at a business on the 700 block of Armstrong Drive reported at 5:30 p.m. July 27 that two male subjects had been in the parking lot in a blue Ford. The employee was locking up the business and requested that an officer stand by until she left. The standby was provided without incident and the blue Ford was not in the area. 

A  employee reported a tan Kia SUV parked on the west side of the building with a male subject inside at 4:30 p.m. July 28. The subject got out of the vehicle momentarily and then got back in. When officers arrived the vehicle was gone and there was no license information available. 

A resident of the 2400 block of Madiera Lane reported that a red pickup truck backed into his driveway and attempted to open his front door at 9:40 p.m. July 28. An officer located the subject and the truck. The driver stated that he was helping a friend move and accidentally went to the wrong house. The driver cleared the police state database.

THEFT

A  clerk reported that a woman drove off without paying for $51.42 worth of gas at 7:40 a.m. July 27. An officer obtained a phone number for the registered owner of the vehicle and the person answering the phone kept hanging up on the officer. A Mount Prospect officer was sent to the address to discuss the issue with the registered owner. 

A taxi driver reported that a rider fled from the taxi without paying the fare at 9 p.m. July 29 on the 300 block of Lakeview Court. An officer went to the suspect’s house. The driver indicated that the resident’s son was the offender, but the mother stated that her son was home for the past five hours. The resident then presented the other son, who the driver stated was also the rider. Since no positive identification could be made, no charges were signed. 

OTHER INCIDENTS

A complainant reported July 27 that his father’s tenant would not give him his mail, which was still going to that house. An officer spoke with the tenant who stated that she had no mail for the complainant and stated that the mail is being forwarded, according to the mail carrier. The complainant will follow up with the post office. 

A mother reported her adult son missing at 12:30 a.m. July 29. The son spoke to the mother’s uncle, but would not tell him where he was in New York. The son made some statements that indicated that he was unstable. He was entered into the police state database as missing/endangered.

During a traffic stop at 12:20 a.m. July 30 at Hastings Drive and Lake-Cook Road, an officer noted a passenger that was not responding. Paramedics were summoned and they also could not rouse the passenger. The passenger was transported to the hospital.
