Police Blotter: Thief Steals Hanging Baskets, Woman Found Crawling on Ground

BATTERY

Marcie N. Soskin, 33, of the 700 block of Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 12:20 a.m. June 9.

A resident of Villa Verde Drive reported June 8 that she had been awakened by someone buzzing her entry bell between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. for the past few weeks. The resident was advised to call 911 immediately when this occurs.

A resident of the 1-100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road reported that children who were playing outside started a newspaper on fire at 1:50 p.m. June 8. An officer spoke with the kids and advised them of the dangers of playing with fire. Management was advised and stated it would tell the parents of the contact.

A complainant reported that as he attempted to repossess a vehicle at 3:20 p.m. June 8 on the 200 block of Lexington Drive, the owner attempted to stop him. The owner said that he was up to date with his payments, but the vehicle was being repossessed due to expired insurance.

An association president on the 600 block of Grove Drive reported a resident illegally entered the building’s boiler room and shut the water off at 1 p.m. June 9. An officer spoke with the resident, who said that he had a leak in his unit and needed the water off so the plumber could make repairs.

A complainant reported at 3:35 p.m. June 9 that her estranged husband was playing softball while their two children were playing unsupervised at . An officer spoke with the husband, who stated that the kids were being watched by his friend’s wife. An officer spoke with the friend’s wife, who confirmed that she was watching the kids and that they were fine.

DRUGS

A 16-year-old Buffalo Grove resident was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 8:15 p.m. June 10.

FOUND ITEM

A resident turned in a bifold wallet that the kids she was watching found June 9 at . The wallet contained four credit cards. An officer determined the owner and had Hawthorn Woods police contact their resident and notify her that the wallet was at the .

HARASSING/SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALLS

A resident reported June 8 that she had a disagreement with a former friend, who continues to call and send text messages. An officer spoke with the former friend and advised her that her communications were unwanted.

A resident reported that she received a phone call June 8 from Canada, and the person stated that he was her grandson and needed $1,900 to get out of jail. The resident knew this was a scam and hung up.

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported that she saw her 15-year-old daughter at 11 p.m. June 8 and discovered she was gone at 2 a.m. June 9. The girl has gone missing on a number of occasions and usually returns the next day. The girl was entered into the police state database.

ORDINANCE VIOLATION

A resident of the 1300 block of Mill Creek Drive reported June 8 that a neighbor’s grass was too long and needed to be cut. An officer checked and found the grass too long. The baby sitter stated that he would let the homeowner know of the violation.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 1-100 block of LeJardine Court reported that a contractor’s trailer door swung open and struck the resident’s car at 1:45 p.m. June 8. The contractor advised the resident to get an estimate and contact him.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A official reported June 9 that someone posted a house-for-sale sign over the drive-up speaker, hindering communication. The sign was removed but was posted again the next day. An officer went to the house for sale and the resident stated that he hired a kid to post the signs and that he would tell him not to do so at the Starbucks.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident of the 500 block of Harris Drive reported two women who were asking if there were rooms for rent at noon June 9. An officer located the woman, who stated they were from Estonia on a work program. They will be working in the area and are looking for a place to stay. They agreed that they may be going about it in the wrong way and said they would leave the area.

A resident of the 1100 block of Auburn Lane reported hearing a male voice outside of her bedroom window at 2 a.m. June 11. Officers checked the area with negative results. Officers made extra passes through the neighborhood for the night.

THEFT

A resident reported that someone removed his wallet from a bag on his bicycle at 9 a.m. May 31 at . He realized that the wallet was gone when he received a call from his bank telling him of an overdraft to his account. The debit card was used in Chicago and Evergreen Park. The bank will not pay for the overdraft because the offender had the resident’s PIN, which the resident kept in the wallet.

A resident of the 400 block of Middlesex Court reported that someone took his solar lights and hanging flowerpot from the front of the house between 9 p.m. June 8 and 8 a.m. June 9.

A resident of the 300 block of University Drive reported that someone took two hanging flower baskets from the front of his home between 9 p.m. June 8 and 8 a.m. June 9.

A resident reported that when he checked his account on June 9, he found two unauthorized debits. Both were made in Knoxville, Tenn., and totaled $100.55.

A resident reported June 8 that while in New Orleans, a person used the resident’s Motorola Droid Atrix cellphone to take the resident’s picture. When the resident turned around, the person ran off with the phone.

A resident of the 1100 block of Windbrooke Drive reported that someone took his black BMX bike from the patio between 10:30 a.m. June 8 and noon June 9. The bike was not secured.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A complainant reported that a woman was crawling on the ground at 8:50 p.m. June 8 outside of . An officer located the woman, who appeared intoxicated. The woman’s son was contacted and he picked her up.

A resident called police at 6:45 p.m. June 9 and stated that she was all alone and frightened. Officers spoke with the resident, who stated that she was not feeling well, so the paramedics were called to check on her. An officer contacted the resident’s son, who stated that he would be there shortly.

A complainant called 911 at 12:50 a.m. June 10 to have police check on his children because the complainant does not like his estranged wife’s boyfriend. The children were sleeping and OK. The complainant was advised that calling 911 to check on his kids is inappropriate and that if he should return to the area, he would be in violation of an active order of protection.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported June 8 that he filled out an online application to be a secret shopper and received a check for $1,850. He also was sent instructions to send $1,400 back via Western Union to a Buffalo, N.Y., Western Union and for him to keep the remainder for his pay. The resident called the credit union that issued the check and he was advised that the check was fake.

A resident reported that he sent some books to Los Angeles that he sold on Amazon.com. The receiver then claimed that what she received was not what she thought she bought and placed a claim with Amazon. The resident said that what he sent was not what the receiver claimed she received. The resident needed a police report to collect his money.

A complainant reported June 10 that his ex-wife’s boyfriend had taken the complainant’s son to a store in Arlington Heights and physically abused the boy. An officer spoke with the son, who stated that he had acted up in the store and was only verbally disciplined. The complainant was advised he needed to make his complaint to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
