Police Blotter: Tax Paperwork Found in the Road

ALCOHOL

Officers responded to a report of two intoxicated men at 10:40 p.m. April 15 at . Officers located them. One was transported to the hospital by paramedics due to a high level of intoxication and the other was taken to his home by taxi.

ANIMALS 

A resident of the 600 block of Lyon Court reported that an orange and white striped cat was sitting on her front porch at 4:20 p.m. April 14. When the resident opened the door, the cat went inside. There were no tags or chip and the cat was transported to Kings Kennel. 

A resident reported that a neighbor was walking her dogs on leashes at 4 p.m. April 14 on the 1100 block of Windbrooke Drive, and when the resident passed, one of the dogs turned and snapped at him, biting the back of his knee. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who showed two valid rabies vaccination certificates. The animal bite procedure was given to the neighbor. 

A resident of Chestnut Court reported a long-haired black cat in his yard at 8 p.m. April 14. An officer retrieved the cat, found no tags or chip and transported the cat to Kings Kennel.

BURGLARY

A resident of the 1100 block of Mill Creek Drive reported finding a screen ripped and a window open to the sunroom between March 30 and April 13. Officers checked the house and found everything in order and the resident stated that nothing was missing. It appeared that the only entry was into the sunroom.

A resident of the 600 block of Essington Lane reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the driveway and removed property, including a woman’s wallet containing a driver’s license, credit cards, gift cards and cash, between 6 p.m. April 13 and 10 a.m. April 14. The next day, the wallet and checkbook were found between the screen door and front door. Everything was inside the wallet, but a check had been written for cash. A note was left with the items stating that the items had been found.

COMPLAINT

A resident of the 900 block of Cambridge Drive reported a black Lamborghini driving through the neighborhood at a high rate of speed at 3:50 p.m. April 13. An officer located the vehicle eastbound on Dundee Road. The driver stated that he was lost and drove through that neighborhood to turn around, but that he did not speed. The driver was given directions and he departed.

An official at , 175 McHenry Road, reported at 1:50 p.m. April 14 that there was a man at the bank who had been provided with a letter prohibiting him to be on any Chase property for previous incidents. An officer spoke with the man, who acknowledged the letter and stated that he would contact corporate offices to resolve the matter or withdraw his funds.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Buckingham Lane reported that some children were playing basketball in a neighbor’s driveway at 2:35 p.m. April 15 and none of the kids lived there. No permission for them to play there was given and the officer had the youths leave the area.

A resident reported April 15 that someone requested to add her to Yahoo Messenger about a week ago, and she accepted. She reported that the person sent a message stating that he/she was feeling naughty and asked the resident if she wanted to have some fun. An officer discussed possible ways to block the offender from sending her any further messages.

DISPUTE

A complainant reported that while getting into her car at 2:15 p.m. April 13 on the 1-100 block of West Dundee Road, the door struck the car next to hers. The passenger of that car then opened her door and struck the complainant’s car. An officer located the other car and that driver stated that she got upset when her car was struck. No damage was done to either car.

A resident reported at 10:45 a.m. April 14 that he was terminated by American Taxi and the owner of the cab was demanding the vehicle back immediately, or the cab would be reported stolen. The resident said he could not return the taxi until after 4 p.m. due to child care, and the issue was stressing him out. An officer spoke with the owner, who stated that he would send another employee to pick up the cab.

A resident reported April 14 that her brother has been harassing her and her husband because the brother claims that the resident owes him $10,000. The brother left a message stating that something bad may happen today if the debt was not paid. An officer contacted the brother but was only able to speak with the wife. The wife stated that she would tell her husband about the police report and to stop contacting the resident.

DISTURBANCE

An officer noted a car with a rear door open at 1 a.m. April 14 in the fire lane of Rack Em Up. A man was inside the car with his head bleeding. He stated that he had slipped and fallen. The man’s son stated that he had been involved in a physical incident with another person and his father intervened and fell, hitting his head. The man was checked out by the paramedics and released.

FOUND ITEM

A person reported that he found a binder containing miscellaneous tax paperwork in the middle of the intersection of Arlington Heights and McHenry roads at 6 a.m. April 13. An officer contacted the owner, who stated that he had given the binder to his accountant. The officer then contacted the accountant who came to the station to pick up the binder.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported that her estranged husband constantly calls and leaves disturbing messages, and showed up unannounced at the home the morning of April 13. An officer spoke with the husband who apologized and stated that he only wanted to know how the children were. It was suggested to the husband that he call his children since they have their own cellphones. He stated that he would.

A resident reported April 14 that a former friend accused him of damaging her boat. The resident told her that he did not know what she was talking about and hung up. The former friend continued to call. An officer was unable to contact the caller.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident reported April 15 that his wife heard something hitting the house the previous evening and thought nothing of it due to the rain and wind. The resident later found that someone had egged the home and damaged a screen to a second floor window.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A complainant on the 800 block of Saxon Place stated that when her niece came out of her room at 12:55 p.m. April 14, she found the front door standing open. The complainant stated that she was quite sure the front door had been locked when she and her mother left. Officers checked and found no signs of force, no one in the house and nothing disturbed.

A resident of the 200 block of Stanton Drive reported that someone left a pair of pliers on top of her car between 9 p.m. April 13 and 5 p.m. April 14. There was no damage to the car, which was locked, and there were no signs of forced entry.

A resident reported that he placed a fish tank for sale on Craigslist and received a text message from a potential buyer on April 15 stating that a check would be sent. The message also stated that the check would be in a larger amount, and instructed the resident to cash the check, take the amount for the tank and send the remainder along with the tank. An officer called the number, which traced to Vermont. A message stated that the voicemail box was unavailable. 

THEFT

A complainant reported that she left her jacket at 9:45 a.m. April 9 in the waiting room of North Suburban Chiropractic and when she returned from her appointment, she found that her Cricket cellphone was missing from the pocket of her jacket. The receptionist told the complainant that no one had turned in the phone.

A complainant reported April 10 that her cellphone was stolen in February and she recently noted that someone had added 100 minutes to the pay as you go plan. The cell provider recommended that the phone be deactivated.

A resident reported that several unauthorized charges were made on her prepaid Visa cash card between April 8 and April 10, after making a purchase at the Mobil gas station. The resident spoke with the provider of the card, who determined that the charges were made online and that type of card is not to be accepted online. The provider will reimburse the resident and seek restitution from the vendors.

WELL-BEING CHECK

Officers responded to a report of a black car with a person slumped over the wheel at 1:30 a.m. April 15 in a front yard on the 300 block of St. Mary’s Parkway. Officers found the occupant semiconscious and when they attempted to speak with him, he drove forward, striking one of the squad cars. Officers broke the passenger-side window, entered the car and placed it into park. Paramedics checked the occupant and found his blood sugar to be extremely low and administered an IV. The person’s father came to the scene and took his son home.
