Police Blotter: Stolen Wet Suits, Winged Burglar

These were among the reports released April 12 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ANIMALS

A resident of the 100 block of North Buffalo Grove Road reported at 11 a.m. April 11 that there is an ongoing issue with a dog constantly barking in a neighboring unit.  The neighbor never answers the door and three citations have been left in the past. The resident has contacted the homeowner’s association board, which cannot do anything about the problem. The officer contacted the Health Department for assistance.

BATTERY

Mark A. Thomas, 41, of the 600 block of Trace Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 2:20 p.m. April 10.

BURGLARY

Someone forced open the door to a condo between 9:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. April 8 on the 100 block of Morningside Lane West. The resident found that her master bedroom was entered and jewelry and $1,800 in cash were taken.

Someone broke the passenger side window of a car and removed a Coach purse at 6:30 p.m. April 10 in a parking lot on the 700 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. The purse contained no valuables and the complainant’s wallet was still in the cup holder.

MISSING TEEN

A resident reported that his 15-year-old daughter did not return home from school at 2:30 p.m. April 8. The girl was not with any known friends and officers were unable to contact her since her cell phone had been taken away. The daughter returned home the following day and the family was referred to .

NOISE COMPLAINT

A resident of the 700 block of Grove Drive reported that her downstairs neighbor was playing her radio loudly and the resident could not sleep at 11:35 p.m. April 9. The resident stated that the neighbor turned the radio down as soon as officers pulled up. An officer went to the neighbor’s unit but no one answered the door.

A resident of the 300 block of Satinwood Court South reported that her neighbor’s television was on very loud at 12:05 a.m. April 10. An officer could hear the television and went to the neighbor’s house. No one answered the door. The officer went back to the home at 3:30 a.m. and found that the television had been turned off.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A complainant reported that a tan minivan was traveling westbound on Whispering Oaks Drive and the occupants were damaging curbside mailboxes at 10:20 p.m. April 9. Officers checked the area but could not locate the vehicle.

A Buffalo Grove Park District employee reported that someone wrote and drew on the playground equipment at between April 8-11. Damage was estimated at $500.

A complainant stated that he observed a male subject throw a brick at the windshield of his truck, shattering it, at 12:20 p.m. April 11 at a gas station on the 1-100 block of West Lake-Cook Road. The complainant stated that there was no provocation prior to the attack, but he does believe that he attended Omni Youth Services with one of the subjects in the offending car, a midsize green station wagon.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Villa Verde Drive reported that someone damaged the mailboxes by pulling them slightly away from the wall, by pulling one door off and damaging another door between 10:30 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. April 11. The post office and the management company were advised and will make repairs.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident reported a male subject that was urinating in at 9:50 a.m. April 8. An officer located the subject who denied the accusation and was allowed to go on his way.

A resident of the 200 block of Dundee Parkway stated that a male subject came to her door to solicit for AT&T at 7:50 p.m. April 11. The subject had no obvious identification and she declined to give him information and he left. An officer checked the area and did not locate the subject. Records indicated that AT&T did not have anyone registered to solicit.

A resident reported at 9 p.m. April 11 that an unknown person had been ringing her doorbell for the past 20 minutes. The resident was not expecting anyone and did not want to open the door. An officer spoke with the subject at the door who identified himself as a process server. The resident came to the door and accepted the papers and expressed her disapproval of the late hour the server had come to the house.  The officer told the resident that she did the right thing by calling 911.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

A complainant reported a suspicious vehicle that had smashed in headlights and a trunk that looked as if it had been broken into at 7:35 a.m. April 9 at the intersection of McHenry and Lake-Cook roads. The subjects in that vehicle were wearing hoodies and had their faces covered. An officer was unable to locate the vehicle, but contacted the registered owner, who stated that his car was supposed to be in the shop for repairs. The owner will follow up with the shop.

THEFT

Someone stole an Apple iPod Touch 64 GB from an employee’s office at on April 7.

A resident reported that someone placed an order on her retail charge account and had that order shipped to another address between April 1-9.

A complainant hung three wet suits over the tailgate of his vehicle to wash off in the rain at 9:30 p.m. April 10 in a parking lot on the 900 block of West Lake-Cook Road. When he returned to the vehicle at 6 a.m. April 11, the suits, valued at $1,800, were gone.

Someone removed a smoke detector from the men’s restroom between April 2-11 at , 1200 N. Arlington Heights Road. The device was valued at $50.

WEAPONS

A resident of the 100 block of Copperwood Drive reported a vehicle parked in her driveway at 12:50 a.m. April 12. An officer located the vehicle and as he approached, a subject walked toward him from the bike path and advised the officer that he owned the vehicle. It was determined that the subject and one of his friends shot a raccoon and a rabbit. Recovered were shotgun shells, two pellet rifles and pellet ammunition. Kevin D. Wheeler, 18, of the 3800 block of Old McHenry Road, Long Grove, and Bryan H. Wexler, 19, of the 400 block of Swan Court, Deerfield, were charged with discharge of a firearm.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A resident requested that officers check on his 11-year-old daughter because she had called him and she was crying at 4:50 p.m. April 11. An officer spoke with the girl who stated that her mom wanted her to do something she did not want to do. All was calm when officers departed. 

A complainant reported that she received a text message at 8 p.m. April 11 from a resident, stating that he was in a dark place and to remember he loves her. The complainant wanted police to check on the resident because he has been having problems. Officers spoke with the resident who stated that he was intoxicated but did not want to harm himself. He further stated that he had a friend coming over to be with him.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A store manager on the 1-100 block of North McHenry Road reported seeing two subjects place merchandise into their pockets and continued to walk around the store. An officer spoke to the subjects who stated that they had no merchandise.  Officers checked and found nothing on them. They were asked to leave the store.

A resident of the 1100 block of Miller Lane reported at 11 a.m. April 10 that the downstairs neighbor confronted her in the hallway and stated that she was tired of the resident’s son running around and wanted to cut his legs off. An officer was unable to contact the neighbor.

A resident was contacted March 14 by a credit provider to verify an application for a credit card. When the resident advised that he did not make an application, the account was closed immediately. The credit provider will follow up.

A resident was contacted by a credit provider to verify that she applied for a line of credit in March. The resident advised the credit provider that she did not make that application. The resident was provided with the information to place an alert on her credit and Social Security number.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Oak Creek Drive reported subjects in the picnic area were chasing someone near the park at 4:35 p.m. April 11. An officer located the subjects who were eating pizza and playing with their nephews.

A resident reported her basement window was broken and she heard sounds inside of her home at 4:50 p.m. April 11 An officer found that the wind had blown the window well cover into the window, breaking it. Officers then checked the interior of the house and found a bird in the fireplace. Officers were able to free the bird and found the remainder of the home to be OK.
