Police Blotter: Resident Loses $67,000 Check

ANIMALS

A resident reported a tan and white dog walking on the sidewalk at 7:20 p.m. April 7 at Regent and Forestway drives. When the officer arrived, the owner claimed his dog, which he said left the yard while he was cutting the grass.

A person reported a gray calico cat sitting on a driveway at 2:50 p.m. April 6 on the 800 block of Bernard Drive. The person said the cat appeared very thin and possibly sick. An officer retrieved the cat, did not find it in the missing animal database, and transported it to Kings Kennel.

DISPUTE

A complainant reported that a vehicle pulled next to his and the driver began swearing at him at 1:30 p.m. April 6 at Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads. An officer spoke with that driver, who stated that the complainant swore at him first, and he does not back down from anyone. Both were advised to avoid each other.

A manager at Chase Bank, 175 McHenry Road, reported that a customer began complaining about bank employees, by talking very loudly and using foul language at 4 p.m. April 6. When the manager attempted to calm the customer, he became more agitated. An officer spoke with the customer at his home and he stated that when he gets upset with his family, he takes it out on whoever is around. He apologized and the officer stated he would pass that on to the bank employees.

A citizen reported flames and smoke coming from at 10:40 p.m. April 8. Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Long Grove and Arlington Heights fire personnel .

LOST ITEM

A resident reported April 6 that he recently sold his home and was given a check for $67,000. The resident stated that he lost the check and believes it may have been lost at . The resident has contacted the Realtor, which will attempt to stop payment on the check.

NOISE COMPLAINT

An officer responded to a report of loud music between 5 and 7:55 p.m. April 7 at the Villa Verde Clubhouse and found that a resident was having a wedding reception. The resident was asked to turn the music down and she complied.

A resident of the 1000 block of Pine Tree Circle North reported yelling coming from the downstairs neighbor’s unit at 10:45 p.m. April 7. An officer went to the neighbor’s unit and spoke with two roommates who were arguing about personal issues. The roommates were asked to keep their voices down.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone smashed the rear window of a car with a landscape rock, which was lying inside the cargo area of the car, between 12:10 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. April 6 on the 800 block of Stradford Circle.

A complainant reported that when she returned to her vehicle at 5 p.m. April 7 in the parking lot, another car parked next to hers pulled away. When she checked, the complainant found fresh damage to the passenger side of her car. The complainant provided a license plate and the officer contacted the registered owner. The registered owner denied causing any damage.

A resident of the 700 block of Trace Drive reported that her husband saw a person damaging the fence that separates the two complexes. An officer checked the area with negative results.

SOLICITOR COMPLAINT

A resident reported a person selling something door to door at 7:10 p.m. April 6 on the 800 block of Lehigh Lane. An officer located the person, who was selling candy for a fundraiser and had a Buffalo Grove permit hanging around his neck. He was allowed to continue.

An officer responded to a solicitor complaint at 4 p.m. April 7 on the 400 block of Lamont Terrance and located a man who stated that he was soliciting for Certified Management out of Little Rock, Ark. He did not have a permit and was told to cease.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident of Villa Verde Drive reported seeing a man standing in the bushes and looking into her window at 5:30 a.m. April 6. The resident closed the drapes and when she peeked outside the man was gone.

A resident reported a man was sitting in a car and occasionally would get out of the car and walk around at 2:35 p.m. April 8 on the 300 block of Weidner Road. An officer located the car and the man, who stated that his wife was in the process of cleaning a home and he was waiting for her. The officer verified the wife cleaning.

THEFT

A clerk at reported that a customer came to pay for her storage units at 4:30 p.m. April 6, and when she left, the customer took with her a roll of bubble wrap for which she did not pay. The customer was contacted and returned to the storage company. The customer stated that she asked the clerk to charge her for the wrap but the clerk must not have heard her. The customer paid for the wrap and apologized for the misunderstanding.

TRESPASSING

Craig S. Napoli, 49, of the 1-100 block of Crescent Drive, Mundelein, was charged with criminal trespass to vehicle at 3:10 a.m. April 8 on Aspen Court, after a resident reported a person inside her vehicle. The resident said nothing was missing.

A resident of the 600 block of Maple Drive reported that when she walked home, she saw a man inside her vehicle at 12:35 a.m. April 9. Nothing was taken. The resident delayed the call to 911 and officers did not locate anyone in the area.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident received a call on April 6 from a man who offered duct cleaning. The resident made an appointment and then was unable to find the company on the Internet. The resident called the company, and was told that no website was needed for the company. The resident told the officer that he was uncomfortable having the company come to his house. The officer advised the resident to cancel the appointment.

A resident received a letter April 7 from the asking for confirmation of a change of address to Chicago and to have his mail forwarded. The resident made no such request and the order has been canceled. The post office will monitor the resident’s mail.

In response to a job inquiry as a nanny, a prospective employer sent a resident a check for $3,400 to purchase supplies and for the resident in pre-payment for watching their ailing son. The check appeared to be fraudulent and has been turned over to the bank’s fraud department.

A resident reported April 7 that her adult son had been released from the hospital that day, and she did not want him to come to her house. The resident did not know where the son was at that time. The resident was advised to call 911 if the son arrived.

A resident reported April 7 that her daughter has been receiving lewd messages on her computer from a site called KIK. An officer will follow up with that site.
