Police Blotter: Officers Convince Boy to go to School, Bus Passenger to Sit Down

ALCOHOL

Carlos Manjarrez-Montiel, 28, of the 500 block of South Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, and speeding at 1:45 a.m. April 29 on southbound Milwaukee Avenue at Riverwalk. 

AMBULANCE ASSIST

Staff at the reported a male patient who was suffering from side effects of drinking alcohol and ingesting cocaine at 1 a.m. April 28. Paramedics transported the patient to the hospital.

CITIZEN ASSIST

A mother reported that her son was refusing to go to school at 1 p.m. April 27. The boy stated that he was not feeling well enough to go. After some conversation, the boy agreed and was driven to school.

COMPLAINT

A school bus driver reported a student who refused to sit in his seat and kept jumping over other seats at 2:05 p.m. April 26 at Buffalo Grove Road at Town Place Circle. An officer spoke with the student, who then agreed to behave and sit down.

A resident reported April 27 that his friend was given permission to use a credit card and vehicle. The relationship has ended and the resident wanted his vehicle back and the use of his credit card to stop. The resident was advised that since he had willingly given the car and authorized the use of the credit card, no criminal issues exist.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Marquette Place reported people came to her door soliciting for magazine subscriptions at noon April 29. An officer located the visitors, who did not have a permit and agreed to stop soliciting.

An official at a company on the 1500 block of Barclay Boulevard reported at 12:45 p.m. April 28 that a former employee continues to send text messages claiming that the company owes him money and that he was not allowed to recover personal property from the company car. The official believed that at least one of the messages was threatening. An officer spoke with the former employee, who denied making threats and only wanted to get what was his. The former employee was asked to stop with the text messages and to contact an attorney.

A resident reported that when she filed her tax return on April 15, it was rejected by the IRS because a return already had been filed. The IRS will follow up and the resident will contact the credit bureaus.

DISPUTE

A complainant reported April 27 that when she inquired at the about issues related to her post office box, she was treated rudely by the staff. When the postmaster asked her to leave, she did. The postmaster stated that the complainant had called and yelled at employees, then came into the office and continued yelling. An officer stood by while employees addressed the complainant’s issue with the post office box.

A complainant reported that a driver who was backing up in the parking lot yelled at the complainant as he drove through the parking lot to the drive-through at 6:45 p.m. April 29. The driver then got out and struck the complainant’s truck with a plastic garbage can. The officer contacted the other driver who apologized and stated that he overreacted.

FOUND ITEMS

A person turned in a driver’s license, a debit card, and a Costco membership card that he found at 5 p.m. April 28 in the parking lot. The desk officer found a phone number for the owner, but there was no answer. The items were placed into property.

A person turned in a debit card that she found at 7:55 p.m. April 28 in the parking lot. An officer contacted the owner, who came to the station to recover her property.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident reported a car with a broken rear window was parked between 11:30 p.m. April 25 and 9:30 p.m. April 26 at Bernard Drive and Hiawatha Drive. An officer located the car and found a brick that apparently shattered the window. The owner was contacted and he stated that he ran out of gas, parked the car, and was looking for a gas can.

PUBLIC INDECENCY

Two students walking home from school reported seeing a white man in a car at 3 p.m. April 27 in a parking lot on the 1000 block of Weiland Road. The man had only a T-shirt on and was exposing himself. The incident was not reported for several hours and there was no description of the car. The man was described as being 30 to 40 years old, heavyset and having short, reddish-blond hair. Extra patrols have been requested for the area.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/PHONE CALL

A resident reported that he received a phone call from a person claiming to be a Microsoft technician at 1:05 p.m. April 28. The caller told the resident that his computer had been hacked and he needed to log on to a particular website for the technician to fix the problem. When the resident refused to do so, the caller started yelling profanities and the resident hung up. An officer attempted to call the phone number and either no one answered or there was a fast busy signal.

employees found the front door unlocked and an interior door propped open with a garbage can at 5:05 a.m. April 29. Officers checked the interior and found no one inside and everything in order.
