Police Blotter: 'Obnoxious' Neighbor Spits, Coughs, Belches, Smokes

ALCOHOL

Paulina I. Venegas 49, of the 12100 block of South Harding Avenue, Alsip, was charged with driving under the influence and illegal lane use at 1:45 a.m. Aug. 17 on northbound Arlington Heights Road north of Lake-Cook Road.

BURGLARY

A resident turned in miscellaneous papers and $126 that she found between 6 p.m. Aug. 15 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 16 on the 600 block of Raupp Boulevard. The owner was contacted and it was determined that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and removed $574 in cash, leaving $700 in the car. Three credit cards, an Illinois driver’s license and a medical card also were taken.

A resident of the 700 block of Vernon Lane stated that someone rang his doorbell at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 15 but he was unable to answer the door. He later found a flier from a siding company. The next morning, the resident found the service door to his garage ajar, and it appeared that the door had been kicked open. Nothing was missing from the garage.

COMPLAINTS

A resident of the 200 block of Lake Boulevard reported that while he was using his smartphone to check his Facebook account while in the elevator with another person, the other person accused the resident of taking his picture. The person’s father then got into the resident’s face and became accusatory. The resident does not know where the father resides.

A customer at a gas station on the 200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue wanted to pay for purchases using her debit card and cash on Aug. 16. The debit card was swiped and it did not have enough to cover the entire transaction. The clerk then told the customer that he could not take a debit card and cash, it would need to be one or the other. The debit card was credited and the customer wanted a receipt. Since no actual transaction took place, no receipt was available. The customer was advised that this was a civil matter.

IMPROPER SECURITY

An employee at a business on the 1300 block of Busch Parkway stated that when he arrived at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 16, he found the door open. Officers checked the interior and everything appeared in order.

NOISE COMPLAINT

A resident of the 200 block of Lake Boulevard reported Aug. 16 that her neighbor intentionally sets off his car alarm, while smoking near her door. He then spits, coughs and belches continually to make himself as obnoxious as possible. The resident has contacted the homeowners association without redress. An officer advised the resident to call 911 when the alarm is set off and to ask management to post a “No smoking within 20 feet of a doorway” notice.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported receiving unwanted text messages from her ex-husband on Aug. 16. The messages are related to purchasing school supplies for the children. Both agreed not to text message each other.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident of the 900 block of Prague Avenue reported that two male Hispanics came to his door at 4 p.m. Aug. 16 and walked back to their vehicle before the resident could answer. When the resident opened the door, one of the males returned and walked in. The male told the resident that he needed to show the resident something in the back because his neighbor was getting a new fence. The resident went with the male, and when he heard his front screen door open, the resident returned and saw the other male inside the house. Both males then left. The resident stated that nothing was missing. The two were driving a burgundy sedan and there was a third person in the car.

THEFT

Someone stole 554 feet of copper wire off of two spools between Aug. 1-11. The wire was located in a secured lot behind a building on the 1300 block of Abbott Court.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Aug. 16 that his 14-year-old daughter has been receiving emails that were sexual in nature from a male. The daughter stated that she met the male in a chat room and they have sent 500 emails to one another. The daughter was advised of the dangers and her father stated that he will continue to monitor the girl’s Internet use.

A former resident reported that after moving from Buffalo Grove in July, she discovered that stud earrings with 1 carat diamonds each, a gold Krugerrand coin and a gold necklace missing from her belongings. There were two teams of movers that packed the belongings. The insurance company requested a police report.

An official for a company in Wheeling reported that an employee used the company’s credit card at a gas station in Buffalo Grove to purchase gas for his personal vehicle. The official needs a copy of the video with the employee making the purchase and a police report is required. The incident will be handled internally.
