Police Blotter: Neighbor Gives Child a Scare

ANIMALS

An officer responded to Cottonwood Road just south of St. Mary’s Parkway for a report of a brown male cat that appeared to have been struck by a car and was bleeding from the head. The officer transported the cat to a veterinary clinic, where it died. 

COMPLAINT

A resident of the 100 block of St. Mary’s Parkway reported a group of youths running in the area at 5 p.m. Nov. 28 with a book bag that belonged to another youth. The running youths threw the book bag into a neighboring yard. An officer retrieved the bag, located the owner and drove him home.

INVESTIGATION

An official at reported Nov. 21 that the U.S. Postal Service delivered a Priority Mail package to the service counter. Inside the package were vials of liquid and a baggie of pills. The pharmacist identified the items as medications that cannot be sent through the mail. Investigators will follow up.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported receiving a text message Nov. 27 stating, “I want you back.” The resident sent a message back to tell the sender that he/she had the wrong number. Since then, the resident has received three voice messages from a woman asking if the resident is cheating with her boyfriend. The resident has advised the caller to stop calling.

A resident reported receiving numerous unwanted text messages from his estranged wife on Nov. 28. An officer reviewed the messages and found no threats or inappropriate language. The resident did not want the wife contacted, just the report for the next court hearing.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone spray painted graffiti on a sidewalk Nov. 28 on the 900 block of Sussex Court. The graffiti does not appear to be gang-related. A work order to clean the sidewalk was sent to Public Works.

A resident of the 1-100 block of Chenault Court reported that someone shot a BB through one of the bedroom windows, making a hole into the outer pane between Nov. 1 and Nov. 27.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident of the 500 block of Crown Point Drive reported that a man came to his door at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 and asked if the resident needed his lawn aerated. The resident thought this was suspicious because of the late hour. The man left a business card and an officer left a message for the man to call him.

A resident reported believing someone was in the house at 2 p.m. Nov. 28. Officers checked the residence and found no one inside and all appeared in order. The 11-year-old resident stated that someone rang the doorbell twice and then she heard noise at the back of the house. The resident then noticed the back door open, and she locked herself into the bathroom and called her mother, who called 911. It was determined that a neighbor rang the bell to check on the resident.

A resident reported Nov. 28 that someone opened an account on Sexyjobs.com using her picture and cell phone number. She has been getting calls and text messages from unknown people. The resident will contact the website and request the account is closed.

THEFT

A resident reported finding three unauthorized withdrawals from his account totaling $809. All three transactions took place Nov. 25 on the 4000 block of Harlem Avenue in Chicago. The bank will follow up.

A resident reported two unauthorized charges were made on her credit card account between Oct. 18 and Oct. 27. The first charge was for $1,956.41 and the second for $32.88. The resident contacted the credit provider, which reversed the charges.
