Police Blotter: Mustard Stains Car, Missing Boyfriend Found Asleep Beneath Tree

ATTEMPTED SCAM

A resident reported that she received a phone call at 9 a.m. July 15 from a male claiming to be her grandson. The caller said he had been arrested in Cancun and needed money to get out of jail. Knowing this to be a scam, she hung up.

BATTERY

A resident reported that his wife’s friend punched him in the face at 8:55 p.m. July 17 after the resident saw his wife and children in the friend’s car and yelled for them to get out. There were no injuries and no complaints were signed.

BURGLARY

Someone broke into a home between 6 p.m. July 16 and 7:20 p.m. July 17 on the 1900 block of Sheridan Road. The K9 Team checked the interior and found no one inside. The dining room and master bedroom were ransacked. Jewelry, a watch, cash and medications were reported missing.

COMPLAINT

A custodian at reported youths on the roof of the school at 10:15 p.m. July 15. Officers responded but found no youths on the roof or in the area.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A mother reported that her son and his friend had been shot with a BB gun by two other youths at 4 p.m. July 15 at . Officers located the youths, confiscated their BB guns and brought them to the police station. Their parents were contacted and they responded to the station. The boys stated that they were shooting at targets and did not intend to shoot at the victims. Due to prior contact, the case was turned over to juvenile officers with charges pending.

FIRE ASSIST

An officer and fire personnel responded to for a small fire of leaves and branches located near the basketball court at 9:55 p.m. July 15. Fire personnel extinguished the blaze.

FOUND ITEM

A complainant turned in an American Express card that she found in an ATM at 5:20 p.m. July 16 on the 1300 block of North Arlington Heights Road. An officer contacted an American Express customer service represented who stated that they would attempt to contact the owner.

IMPROPER SECURITY

An officer found the rear door to a business on the 1200 block of West Dundee Road unsecured at 3:15 a.m. July 15. The interior was checked and found to be in order. An officer attempted to contact a representative without success. The door was secured.

An officer discovered an unsecured door at 1:45 a.m. July 16 at a business on the 1600 block of North Buffalo Grove Road. The interior was checked and found to be in order. An official was contacted and the door was secured.

An officer responded to an active alarm and found an unsecured door at 5 p.m. July 17 on the 300 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. The interior was checked and found to be OK. A representative was contacted who confirmed that nothing was missing or disturbed in the building.

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported at 1 p.m. July 17 that his 77-year-old wife, who suffers from dementia, left in the car. The wife and car were entered into the police state database. Officers checked the area without success. Later that evening, police in Dolton, Ill., located the woman, who was OK.

A Lake County deputy requested assistance at 3:25 p.m. July 17 in locating a resident who suffers from dementia and had been missing for more than an hour. An officer located the victim and turned her over to the deputy.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 1100 block of Downing Road reported that someone wrote on his vehicle with yellow mustard between midnight and noon July 15. When the mustard was washed off, it left stains on the rear bumper skin.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/PERSON

A Wheeling police officer reported a Hispanic male watching customers use the ATM at a bank at 7:40 a.m. July 15 on the 1-100 block of Lake-Cook Road. When a passerby approached the male, he ran off. Officers checked the area with negative results.

A resident of the 100 block of Old Oak Court East reported July 15 that he found the box containing cable TV wires left open and he closed it. The resident then saw a male subject reopen the box and leave. This has been reported to the cable company.

A resident reported at 6:20 p.m. July 16 that he has had three different pizza places deliver pizza to his home in the past two days. After the officer took the report, several additional orders were delivered to the home.

A resident reported that while walking her dog she observed a dark car and a white van in the area parked on the street at 12:15 a.m. July 17 at Bernard Drive and Navajo Trail. The dark car then left and the resident thought that someone might be locked in the van. An officer checked and found no one and nothing out of place. Attempts to contact the registered owner of the van were unsuccessful.

THEFT

A woman reported that in her rush to leave a baseball game due to severe weather at 7:30 p.m. June 30 at , her daughter left behind a handbag containing makeup and an iPod Touch. The daughter checked with everyone and the area but was unable to locate the bag. The bag is black with a red drawstring. The iPod Touch was entered into the police state database.

Someone took the hubcaps from a 2007 Corvette that was parked in a parking garage between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. June 10 on the 2100 block of East Lake-Cook Road.

Someone took a black Schwinn Impact bicycle from an open garage between 7 and 10 p.m. July 14 on the 1500 block of Rose Boulevard. A neighbor reported seeing two males near the resident’s garage walking with a bike.

Two employees at a business on the 1000 block of Asbury Drive reported having their property taken from a table near docks between 8 and 10 a.m. July 16. Taken were a cell phone and a wallet.

A guest at a hotel on the 1500 block of Busch Parkway reported at 5:15 p.m. July 16 that he left his watch on a patio table, and when he returned the silver Rolex, valued at $3,500, was gone.

The driver of a gray/greenish sport utility vehicle pumped $59.18 in gas at the and drove off without paying at 6:05 p.m. July 17. The manager will check the security video for a license plate.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A resident of the 1200 block of Johnson Drive reported that she was out looking for her boyfriend who had been drinking and had not returned home at 3:45 a.m. July 16. An officer had the boyfriend’s cell phone pinged and he was located in the area, sleeping under a tree.

A complainant reported a young girl walking by herself and crossing the street against the light at 4:55 p.m. July 16 at Deerfield Parkway and Buffalo Grove Road. Officers located 9-year-old girl running down the road. An officer spoke with the girl who stated that she did not like the rules set for her by her mother so she was going to her dad’s house. The officer spoke to the girl about possible consequences, and she apologized to her mother when the girl was picked up from the station.

An officer responded to a report of two youths who appeared to be overcome by the heat at 4:45 p.m. July 17 on the 100 block of University Drive. The youths stated that they were dropped off to solicit money for a youth organization and they got hot walking. An officer took the youths to the station to cool off and wait for their ride.

VANDALISM

A resident of the 200 block of Belaire Drive reported that someone wrote obscenities and lewd pictures on his car with window paint between 8 p.m. July 14 and 10:15 a.m. July 15. The resident suspected a former friend. The officer spoke with the former friend, who denied writing on the car before the officer even mentioned the car. The former friend was advised to stop this behavior.

A resident of the 1400 block of Larchmont Drive reported hearing pounding on a window at 12:50 a.m. July 16. Officers checked and found that eggs had been thrown at the house. An officer checked the area but did not locate anyone.

OTHER INCIDENTS

The owner of a company on the 1-100 block of West Dundee Road reported that he had filed for bankruptcy protection and his bank improperly seized $4,635 in merchandise from the store between Dec. 14, 2009 and March 31, 2010. The owner was advised that this is a civil matter and to contact his attorney.

A resident reported July 8 that someone opened a Nicor account using his identification, but the account is for an address in Chicago. Nicor has been contacted.

A resident of the 600 block of Grove Drive reported that a friend of his son was trying to sneak into the apartment through a bedroom window at 10:50 p.m. July 17. The friend is not allowed to be in the apartment. The son and friend had departed prior to officer’s arrival.
