Police Blotter: Missing Hiding Place, Trespassing Teens

These were among the reports released Feb. 21 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ALCOHOL

A cab driver reported that his rider was extremely intoxicated and was unable to provide an address at 8:15 p.m. Feb. 18. An officer was able to get a phone number from the rider and arranged for her father to pick her up from the police station.

Diane N. Gal, 28, of the 1000 block of Kenilworth Drive, Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 2:30 a.m. Feb. 20 on westbound Lake-Cook Road at Hastings Drive.

Samantha J. Rebacz, 22, of the 1700 block of Maple Place, Schaumburg, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 3:05 a.m. Feb. 20 on westbound Dundee Road east of Old Arlington Heights Road.

Hilario Hernandez-Popoca, 27, of the 600 block of West Hale Court, Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal lane usage, driving on a suspended license, driving without headlights, driving without insurance and illegal transportation of open liquor at 6:35 a.m. Feb. 18 at Deerfield Parkway and McHenry Road.

LOST/FOUND ITEM

A laptop bag was found by an employee on Feb. 18 the 200 block of West Dundee Road. An officer was able to identify the owner, contact him and return the property. Missing from the bag was the laptop computer.

A resident reported that a fake hairspray can in which she stored jewelry valued at $3,400 was missing when she returned from a trip. She believes the can was accidently thrown out or misplaced between Oct. 3 and Dec. 25, 2010.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone left graffiti and damaged wall molding between 5-7 p.m. Feb. 20 in a building on the 0-100 block of Oak Creek Drive.

STRAY CAT

A resident reported finding a stray cat in her yard on the 1-100 block of Buckingham Lane. The cat was described as a male, gray, black-and-tan striped, and weighing in at 15 pounds. It was taken to Kings Kennel.

THEFT

Someone pumped $44.36 worth of gas at Mobil, 1248 McHenry Road, and left without paying at 8:25 a.m. Feb. 18.

TRESPASSING

The owner of a shopping center on the 800 block of South Buffalo Grove Road reported Feb. 19 an ongoing problem with youths breaking into the maintenance doors and the hatch to the roof. The owner advised that he had just seen several kids go into the locked maintenance area. When the officer went to check, the door opened and eight to 10 youths ran out. The officer was able to detain one 16-year-old, who will be charged with trespassing.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Feb. 17 that his landlord is using hostile tactics and shut the resident’s water off. An officer advised the resident that the water was shut off by Public Works employees repairing a water main break. The resident then complained that his landlord has not made some needed repairs to the front door. The resident was told that his issues were civil in nature.
