Police Blotter: Man Charged with Alcohol Theft

ALARM

Officers responded to multiple alarms at a home at 11:10 a.m. Oct. 17. No one was at home and the drapes were drawn. A neighbor stated that the resident is often out of town. The alarm company was unable to contact the resident. The perimeter was checked and all was found to be OK. 

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

A Walgreens pharmacist reported that a man dropped off a prescription for 120 pills at 8:10 p.m. Oct. 17. The pharmacist contacted the doctor, who stated that the prescription was not valid. Officers told the pharmacist to contact 911 should the man return.

Officers checked Oct. 17 on a garage with a door that had been open for the past two days. Officers checked the home and found everything in order. The door was secured and a message was left.  

LOST/FOUND PROPERTY

A postal worker returned a license plate that he found in the roadway at 1:10 p.m. Oct. 17 at Deerfield Parkway and Weiland Road. An officer contacted the registered owner who came to the station to retrieve his property. 

A resident reported that she misplaced her black wallet at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 at Buffalo Grove Gymnastics. The wallet contained several credit cards, a Social Security card and a driver’s license. The resident was advised to contact her credit providers and cancel the cards. 

PROPERTY DAMAGE

An employee on the 600 block of Lake-Cook Road reported that a golf ball shattered the driver’s side sliding door window of her van between 10 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. Oct. 17. The golf ball was a Nike Mojo with the letter “M” or “W” on it. The damage was reported to the pro shop. 

An official reported that someone tore down a portion of the fence between 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at a complex on the 700 block of Grove Drive. While a worker was repairing the fence, a person pushed the worker out of the way in order to go through the hole in the fence. 

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/VEHICLE

A resident reported two suspicious men by a car at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 17 in a parking lot on the 1-100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. An officer located the men, who were in the process of changing a tire on the car.

A resident of the 700 block of Lehigh Lane reported that someone may be breaking into her house at 1:35 a.m. Oct. 18. The resident stated that she heard noises from downstairs, possibly in the garage. Officers checked and found the exterior doors and windows secure. The resident had placed her sick dog into the garage, and the dog may have been making the noises.

THEFT

A loss prevention official at Dominick’s reported that security video showed man take two bottles of alcohol and leave the store without paying at 5:55 p.m. Oct. 16. The items were valued at $104.98. The official stated that the man looked like the same person who was in the store on Oct. 5 and left the store without paying. 

A loss prevention official at Dominick's reported a theft in progress at 1:50 p.m. Oct. 17. The official stated that a man was placing two bottles of alcohol into his backpack. Officers waited outside the store for the man to come out and after locating the bottles in his backpack, they charged Douglas R. Artwohl, 25, of the 2100 block of Lillian, Arlington Heights, with retail theft.

A resident of the 400 block of Marvins Way reported that a pair of heirloom diamond and gold earrings went missing from the house between Oct. 4-13. The resident last wore the earrings to a wedding and then placed them on a shelf in the bedroom. The resident thoroughly searched the house to be sure that the earrings were not misplaced. The resident stated that other than her family, members of the cleaning crew were the only ones in the home. An officer spoke with the boss of the cleaning crew, who stated that she did not believe her crew took the earrings and that they had gone through all of the vacuum bags by hand and found nothing. 

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported Oct. 17 that she believed that someone hacked into her computer and deposited a virus. An officer ran the Norton virus program on the resident’s computer and it indicated no viruses. The officer spoke with the resident’s son ,who stated that he would check his mother’s computer and report anything that he may find.
