Police Blotter: Lockers Burglarized at Buffalo Grove High School

ANIMALS

A resident of the 400 block of Hawthorn Road reported that a neighbor began yelling at her while she was walking her dog at 1:15 p.m. April 19. The neighbor accused her of not picking up after her dog, which she denied. The resident did not want the officer to contact the neighbor at this time.

A resident of the 900 block of Pine Tree Circle South reported April 21 that her upstairs neighbor allows her dog to bark excessively. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who said that she does control her dog and the only one who complains is the resident. The neighbor said she would do her best to keep the dog quiet.

A resident reported that a neighbor walks her two dogs past his house on a regular basis and this morning the neighbor stopped to sit in his front yard with one of the dogs. When the resident told the neighbor that she was not welcome in his yard, the neighbor became offended. She responded with profanities. An officer spoke with the neighbor’s husband, who stated that he thought it was OK to enter the resident’s yard but would have his wife and dogs not do so in the future.

A resident saw his neighbors walking their newly acquired 3-year-old dog and thought that the neighbor’s dog should meet his 5-year-old dog. Police said “the dogs were not neighborly” and began to fight. When the resident attempted to separate them, he was bitten in the hand.

BATTERY

Humberto Ayala, 42, of the 600 block of St. Mary’s Parkway, Buffalo Grove, was charged with domestic battery at 10:30 a.m. April 22 on the 600 block of St. Mary’s Parkway.

COMPLAINTS

A resident reported a gray Ford sport utility vehicle driving too fast and taking corners too fast at 7:10 a.m. April 19 at Red Bud Place and Chicory Lane. The resident notices this on school days when she is waiting for the school bus with her child. The resident was not able to get a correct license plate number. An officer will monitor the area.

A resident reported receiving a collections letter for an overdue bill from a cable company in Atlanta. An offender has been identified and an officer will follow up with the Atlanta police.

A company official emailed a customer who owes the company $32,000. The customer emailed back April 19 with an unprofessional statement. An officer contacted the customer who apologized for the remark and stated that he would deal with the issue through his attorney.

A resident reported April 19 that his income tax return was rejected because someone already filed using the resident’s identification. The IRS will follow up.

DRUGS

David Baldi, 23, of the 4600 block of North Clarendon Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of cannabis and improper parking on the roadway at 1:15 a.m. April 22 on northbound Milwaukee Avenue at Riverwalk.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A complainant reported at 7:45 p.m. April 19 that the glass in the door of the shattered. It was unknown what caused the damage. was requested to secure the door.

RECKLESS DRIVING

A resident reported that one car was attempting to run another car off the road at 9:10 p.m. April 19 on the 1-100 block of Timber Hill Road. The offending vehicle was bumping into the rear of the other car. The resident stated that the offending vehicle was driven by her ex-boyfriend and the victim vehicle was driven by her current boyfriend. Michael A. Valentino, 38, of the 1200 block of Inverrary Lane, Deerfield, was charged with reckless driving.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/PERSON/PHONE CALLS

A resident reported that she received a call April 18 from a woman who claimed to be from ComEd and requested the resident’s ComEd account number. The resident gave the caller the number, and the caller then spoke about alternative energy companies. When the resident told the caller she wanted to stay with ComEd, the caller hung up. The resident was advised to contact ComEd to have her account monitored.

A complainant reported that she noticed a male customer by a counter, adjusting his waistband at 1:45 p.m. April 21 at . She thought the person may have been shoplifting and followed him out of the store. A service officer was in the lot and spoke with the person, who gave his name and date of birth, and then ran from the area. The area was checked with negative results. The name and date of birth were run through the state police database and indicated the person had been reported as a missing person.

A resident reported that when she was walking at 2:45 p.m. April 21 on Old Checker Road west of Vintage Road, a vehicle pulled next to her and the driver told her to get in the car. The resident continued walking and the car followed her at a slow speed. The vehicle was a silver Infinity, unknown license plate. The area was checked with negative results.

A resident of the 600 block of Essington Lane reported that she heard a noise from the front of the house at 2:20 a.m. April 22. When the resident checked, she found the front door ajar and the door to the garage open. The resident checked the house, found no one inside and everything appeared to be OK. Officers checked the outside of the house and found nothing out of order.

THEFT

A student reported that someone entered her locked locker during gym class, and removed her purse and wallet from her backpack between 1 and 3 p.m. April 20.

A student reported that someone entered her locked locker during gym class and removed her Apple iPhone and cash between 1 and 3 p.m. April 20.

A student reported that someone entered her locked locker during gym class and removed her purse, wallet and earphones between 1 and 2 p.m. April 20.

A student reported that while she was at track practice, someone entered her locked locker in the sports locker room and removed her iPod and headphones between 3 and 5:30 p.m. April 18.

A clerk at reported that a man pumped $20.02 worth of gas and drove off without paying at 5:05 p.m. April 20. The vehicle was either a black Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Charger. The area was checked without success.

A loss-prevention official at reported having a juvenile in custody for placing merchandise into his backpack and attempting to leave the store without paying at 4 p.m. April 19. No complaints were signed and the youth was released to his mother.

TRESPASSING

A resident of Villa Verde Drive reported April 18 that a neighboring unit has a county eviction notice on the door and the door was secured with a bracket and padlock. The bracket was removed with force from the doorframe, which provided access to the residence. Officers checked the unit and found no one inside. The door was secured.

David P. Langer, 49, of the 1100 block of Briston Lane, Buffalo Grove, was charged with criminal trespass to land at 1:15 April 20 at .

VANDALISM

A resident reported that someone knocked over a portable toilet and a garbage can April 21 at . A work order for the was generated.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A complainant called and asked officers check his ex-wife’s residence to make sure his son was with her at 3:50 p.m. April 21. The ex-wife was to have returned the boy that morning, but failed to do so. An officer spoke with the ex-wife, who stated that she already had dropped the boy off. Dispatch contacted the complainant who confirmed the boy was with him.

OTHER INCIDENTS

A resident reported April 20 that a male caller stated that he was a friend of the resident’s daughter’s ex-boyfriend and he wanted to know if the daughter had the ex-boyfriend’s wallet in her possession. The resident believed that the caller was in fact the ex-boyfriend and there is a no-contact order against him. The assistant state’s attorney requested a police report.
