Police Blotter: K9 Locates Drugs, Cash

ANIMALS

A resident found a yellow and white Lab/retriever mix running loose at 8 a.m. Aug. 29 on the 2100 block of Birchwood Lane. An officer located owner information but was unable to make contact. A message was left and the dog, which police have now caught three times, was taken to Kings Kennel.

COMPLAINTS

A resident of the 1200 block of Wellington Court North  complained of a peculiar odor coming from her upstairs neighbor’s unit at 9:50 a.m. Aug. 29. Another neighbor identified the odor as the smell of burnt cannabis. The resident was advised to call 911 immediately when the odor is present.

DISPUTE 

An official at a business on the 700 block of Hastings Lane reported Aug. 29 that he terminated an employee, and she is now refusing to return the business keys that she has in her possession. The employee was holding the keys until she received something in writing as to why she was terminated. When advised that a written notice is not required, she relinquished the keys.

FRAUD

An official at a salon on the 300 block of West Half Day Road received email notification that someone executed five credits to one Visa account between July 3 and Aug. 28. The credits totaled $1,864.91. The official will contact the credit provider to determine which Visa account the money went into. 

VANDALISM

A maintenance supervisor on Oak Creek Drive reported at 10 a.m. Aug. 29 that they had power washed graffiti the previous day and the same graffiti appeared overnight. The supervisor provided the name of a suspect. 

OUTSIDE ASSIST

A Homeland Security Agent requested assistance in serving warrants on two people at 7 a.m. Aug. 29 on the 1100 block of Miller Lane. A resident, who lives with the people, stated that he had no knowledge as to where they were. When the agent requested an identification or passport from the resident, he was unable to produce either. He was placed under arrest by the Homeland Security Agent. 

The K9 team was requested to assist in the search for money and drugs on a rip-off deal at 7:05 p.m. Aug. 29 in a parking lot of the 100 block of East Rand Road, Mount Prospect. Narcotics were located in a vehicle and the dog found $1,340 in cash hidden under an old tire.
