Police Blotter: Husband Pays a Visit to Wife's Boyfriend

COMPLAINT

A resident of the 2700 block of Chambourd Drive reported that someone rang her doorbell at 9:55 p.m. June 18. When she answered the door, she found a number of juveniles laying in her front yard. The youths ran off toward Half Day Road. An officer located the youths and contacted their parents to pick them up.

A resident of the 1100 block of Sandhurst reported that a person came to her door soliciting to replace siding on her house at 1:15 p.m. June 19. The solicitor did not have a permit and violated the No Solicitor sign. An officer called the company and advised it of a need for a permit.

DISPUTE

A complainant leased a restaurant space on the 1600 block of North Buffalo Grove Road, which included all of the furnishings and appliances. When the complainant went to the store June 19, he found the previous tenant removing items. The previous tenant stated that he owns much of the items in the space and that his lease is not over until later in the year. Both were told to speak with the management company.

DRUGS

Jesse J. Smith, 19, of the 400 block of Beechwood Road, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia at 1:05 a.m. June 20 on southbound Arlington Heights Road at Dundee Road after an officer smelled cannabis coming from a vehicle during a traffic stop. A K9 from Palatine searched the car and a grinder and a green leafy substance was located. The substance field-tested positive for cannabis. Two additional plastic bags of cannabis were located in the trunk of the car.

LOST/FOUND ITEMS

A resident of the 300 block of Willow Parkway reported her garbage can was taken from the end of the driveway between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. June 18. The resident checked the area in case the can blew away but could not locate it. Waste Management was contacted and indicated it will replace the can.

An officer found a blue Roadmaster mountain bike on the northwest side of the building at Alcott Park at 3:15 a.m. June 20. The bike was placed into property at the police headquarters.

PROPERTY DAMAGE
 
A complainant and her mother reported that tar sealer got onto both of their cars when it was sprayed on a parking lot on the 1300 block of Dundee Road at 2:30 p.m. June 19. The worker spraying the sealer used a substance to remove the tar from the car, which was successful, but the substance left a cloudy haze on the paint. The worker offered his insurance information and the management company for which he works.

SCAM

After a resident filled out an online application to be a secret shopper, she received a check for $970 this month with instructions to cash the check, shop at Walmart and return $657.36 via Western Union. The resident’s bank then informed her that the check she cashed was stolen and she was the victim of a scam.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/VEHICLE
 
A resident reported receiving two calls June 19 from a woman who accused the resident of stealing her cellphone. The woman asked the resident for his name and address so she could retrieve her phone. The resident has had the same cellphone and number for a many years and he did not provide her with any information.

A resident of the 1300 block of Devonshire Road reported June 19 that a black 2003 Toyota had been parked on the street for several days without moving. An officer went to the registered owner’s home and got no answer. A voicemail message was left.

OTHER INCIDENTS
 
A resident reported that a check she sent for her son’s fraternity dues had been cashed by someone other than the intended recipient. The bank will follow up.

A resident of Villa Verde Drive reported that the husband of the woman he is seeing rang his doorbell at 10:05 a.m. June 19. The husband gained access to the building and was banging and knocking on the resident’s door. The husband left when the resident stated that he was going to call the police. An officer contacted the husband, who stated that he wanted to speak with his wife, and that he understood he was not to return.
