Police Blotter: Home Burglarized, Gate Removed

ATTEMPTED THEFT

A complainant on Crown Point Drive reported that unknown offenders attempted to steal his snowplow, which was attached to his truck, between 2 and 7 a.m. Jan. 28. The offenders unhooked the unit from the truck and left it. The complainant believed the unit was not compatible with the offender’s truck. A special watch was placed on the residence. 

BATTERY

A complainant reported that while walking her dog between 7 and 7:25 a.m. Jan. 27 on Lake Boulevard, she was confronted by a white man wearing black clothing who made a kicking gesture toward her dog. When the complainant told the man not to kick her dog, he then spit on her. The complainant said she would sign complaints if the man was located. Officers checked the area with negative results. 

BURGLARY  

A resident of Hidden Lake Drive reported that someone broke into his home between 5 and 8 p.m. Jan. 28. The exterior door to the mudroom had been forced open and the rear sliding door was closed but unlocked. The dining room and master bedroom were ransacked. The complainant indicated several pieces of jewelry appeared to be missing, but he could not confirm what they were. The complainant was advised to inventory the items missing after evidence was collected. The evidence technician arrived on scene and a canvass of the neighborhood was conducted.

DISPUTE

A complainant reported that a customer attempted to buy cigarettes at 12:26 a.m. Jan. 29 at a gas station on the 1200 block of McHenry Road. The customer could not provide an ID and was refused service. He became argumentative, but left the store. The complainant could not provide a description of the customer or his vehicle. The complainant was advised to obtain that information for future incidents.

DISTURBANCE

Officers responded to report of a disturbance at 12:24 a.m. Jan. 29 in a parking lot on the 1100 block of McHenry Road. One person, who was highly intoxicated, said he got into a verbal altercation with another patron. The other patron was identified and both parties advised the altercation led to a pushing and shoving match. They were pulled apart by friends and went their separate ways. One of the people became belligerent with police and was advised to leave the premises. He was transported to the station to await a ride home.

NOISE COMPLAINT

A complainant reported there was excessive noise coming from the apartment above his between 10 and 10:43 p.m. Jan. 26 on Fabish Drive. He said there have been several police reports filed in the past regarding the noise. Officers advised the complainant to speak with crime prevention on how to resolve the issue. 

SUSPICIOUS/HARASSING PHONE CALLS

A complainant reported Jan. 27 that she had received several calls on a business line from a man who spoke Spanish. A phone number was obtained and officers contacted the caller. He stated he was trying to reach his sister who lived in Chicago. Officers advised the caller he had the wrong number and he apologized. Officers provided the complainant with phone trap information in case the calls continued. 

A complainant reported Jan. 26 that she was receiving several phone calls of a harassing nature from a job placement company. The company was calling regarding a placement fee owed that they claimed had not been paid. The company was contacted and advised to cease all communication with the complainant. They also were advised to go through the civil courts if they wished to pursue the matter further. 

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE/INCIDENT

A complainant reported that a van was parked on River Oaks Circle East between 2:15 and 10:09 p.m. Jan. 28 and that a white or Hispanic man was in the driver’s seat. The complainant provided the license plate number, which registered to a business, but there was no contact information. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

A complainant reported that someone removed her chain-link fence gate and placed it on the ground between 10 p.m. Jan. 28 and 9 a.m. Jan. 29 on White Pine Road. The gate provides access between the backyard and standalone garage. The complainant advised her family rarely uses the gate and did not know why it would be removed. Officers checked the area and did not observe any footprints. The complainant was advised to contact 911 if she observed any further suspicious incidents.
