Police Blotter: Eggs, Spaghetti Sauce, Syrup Thrown at House and Car

ALCOHOL

Nathan Kahn, 18, of the 1-100 block of LeJardin Court, Buffalo Grove, was charged with resisting a peace officer, social host responsibility and possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 3:15 a.m. July 7 on the 100 block of Lilac Lane.

James Seo, 40, of the 1-100 block of West Brentwood Drive, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without insurance and driver’s license not on person at 1:35 a.m. July 9 on Lake-Cook Road at Milwaukee Avenue

A resident of the 400 block of Middlesex Court reported that she located a collie mix with long tan and white fur in her front yard at 5:55 p.m. July 7. The dog had no leash, collar, tags or chip. It was taken to Kings Kennel.

BATTERY

A resident reported that he failed to yield to another vehicle at 8:15 p.m. July 8 on the 1000 block of Knollwood Drive and the female driver was not satisfied with his apology. The other driver’s husband then exchanged insults with the resident and the husband struck the resident in the face. The resident did not know the couple but believed they live in the area.

COMPLAINT

A resident reported a person came to the door asking for water at 2 p.m. July 5. An officer located the man, who was selling magazine subscriptions for Strictly Business 1 Inc. He had no permit and was told to stop his door-to-door activity.

A resident reported a loud party at a neighbor’s residence at 10 p.m. July 6 on the 600 block of Buckthorn Terrace. An officer spoke with the neighbor who stated that everyone was in the process of leaving and there should not be any further noise.

A complainant reported being stopped with a possible intoxicated driver at 9:25 a.m. July 8 on McHenry Road at Devlin Drive. An officer found that driver to be confused, and did not know where she was. The driver was taken to the police station to wait for a ride from an acquaintance. Her vehicle was towed.

DISPUTE

A resident of the 2200 block of Avalon Drive reported July 5 that his landscaping company took down a section of his fence to make it easier for them to get their equipment into the yard. The resident has refused to pay the last invoice until his fence is repaired. Two workers from the landscape company came to the home demanding money and swore at the resident. An officer spoke with an official of the landscape company and told him not to return.

A person reported two people fighting on the roadway because of a traffic altercation at 9 p.m. July 8 on West Lake-Cook Road at Weidner Road. The drivers had left the area, but the officer was able to identify them from the license plates furnished by the complainant. The officer spoke to both drivers who admitted to the altercation, stating that they pushed and spat on each other. Neither was injured. The officer advised both of proper ways to handle traffic disputes.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A resident reported July 7 that she has received hang-up calls in the early morning hours for the past two years. The resident has been working with her phone provider to obtain the caller information from the blocked number.

A resident reported July 7 that a person she had dated for a short time continues to call and send her text messages. She has asked him to stop, but he continues to communicate. An officer spoke with the person who agreed to stop communicating.

A resident reported receiving five unwanted calls from his girlfriend’s husband between noon and 4 p.m. July 8. The resident stated that he has now ended his relationship with the woman until she gets a divorce. He requested the officer to contact the couple and have them stop communicating with him, which the officer did.

A resident reported harassing phone calls from her ex-husband between noon and 5 p.m. July 8. The resident had requested her ex to provide permission to allow their son to return to the United States from the Ukraine. The ex will not do so unless she ends his child-support payments. The resident was referred to the police social worker for an order of protection and was advised to contact her attorney.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENTS/PHONE CALLS/TEXTS

A resident reported that a neighbor called and cursed the family out at 2:15 p.m. July 6. An officer spoke with the neighbor, who stated that no such call was made. The resident showed the officer a bank receipt that showed a time when the call was allegedly made. The resident later showed telephone records that indicated no such call was made to the resident.

A resident reported that she received a text message with a sexual comment at 10:50 p.m. July 6. An officer called the number and was told by the woman that the phone belonged to a 10-year-old. The woman called back to say that the 10-year-old did send the text thinking it was going to her cousin. The woman apologized and stated she would deal with her child.

A resident of the 300 block of Burnt Ember Lane reported hearing his door open and hearing voices at 1:25 p.m. July 8. When he checked, he found the garage service door open and the overhead light on. Officers checked the area and found no one.

THEFT

A resident reported July 6 that she received a package from China, which contained an Airsoft pistol that she did not order. She also found that someone made 14 unauthorized purchases on her account, which totaled $1,700, between April 1 and July 6. The resident is working with her bank to resolve the issue.

A complainant reported that he left his cellphone on the counter at at 4:25 p.m. July 6, and when he returned to retrieve it, the phone was gone. The store employee stated that the manager would review the security video to see if the offender can be identified.

A resident reported that a woman he met at a bar took items from his house and used his credit and debit card without his permission on July 8. The resident said that three watches, an iPhone, a Blackberry tablet and his wallet were missing. His credit card was used to make a $441 purchase and numerous charges at gas stations. After some follow up, the items were recovered from a third party. The resident wants to sign complaints for theft.

VANDALISM

A resident of the 1-100 block of Carlyle Lane reported that someone egged the house and threw spaghetti sauce on the home between 11 p.m. July 6 and 8 a.m. July 7. The car on the driveway also had spaghetti sauce and pancake syrup on it.

OTHER INCIDENTS

Vernon Hills police reported a domestic dispute in a vehicle with three children inside at 10:50 a.m. July 8. The vehicle registered to an address in Buffalo Grove. Officers checked on the family and the husband and wife stated that there had been an argument but everything was fine. The children appeared normal and unharmed.

A resident reported that he wanted his brother, sister and nephew out of the house at 11:15 a.m. July 8. The home is in foreclosure and is owned by the bank. The resident was advised that he has no standing to have his family leave the house and that he should try to get along with them.
