Police Blotter: Debit Card Fraud and Suspicious People

These were among the reports released Nov. 23 by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

ALCOHOL

A resident reported two subjects appeared to be intoxicated as they wanted eastbound on Bernard Drive at 9 a.m. Nov. 22. An officer located the subjects, one of whom had fallen off his bicycle. Paramedics checked the subject and he was released. The officer drove the subjects home.

SUSPICIOUS AUTO/PERSON

A resident reported seeing a vehicle and subject that fit the description of someone who tried to pick up a student walking to school on Nov. 4. An officer located the registered owner of the car, which was seen at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 22 at Prairie Road at Arlyd Drive. The owner said his brother, who was visiting, was driving the car. The officer spoke with the brother, who stated that he was not familiar with the area and had pulled over to check his GPS.

A store manager at Jewel, 79 N. McHenry Road, reported that a male entered the store and left without paying for anything at 12:15 a.m. Nov. 23. The manager was unsure if anything was taken. An officer spoke with the registered owner of the vehicle the subject left in, and she stated that her son was driving the car. The officer spoke with the son, who stated that his friend had gone into the store but did not buy anything.  The son and his friend both denied taking anything without paying for it.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A business owner on the 100 block of North McHenry Road reported Nov. 22 that had contracted with an auction company to sell his business. When the owner received the contract, he found it did not comply with his verbal agreement.  The owner canceled his business with the auction company, and reported that the auction company official continues to call demanding money owed. An officer spoke with the auction company official, who agreed that the civil process is the proper way to resolve any differences.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A company official on the 1100 block of North McHenry Road reported someone keyed a company car between Nov. 19-21.

THEFT

Someone fraudulently used a debit card on Nov. 16 to make four charges totaling $2,000. The complainant said that he lost or misplaced his card and that it was used at First Midwest Bank.
