Police Blotter: Christmas Tree Left on Resident's Driveway

ANIMALS

A resident of the 900 block of Pine Tree Circle South reported an ongoing issue at 1 p.m. June 7 with an upstairs neighbor who allows her dog to bark excessively. The resident spoke with the neighbor, who told the resident not to be concerned with the barking, as dogs do bark, and she would contact a lawyer should the resident continue to complain. The officer did not receive an answer at the door, but the dog did bark. A citation was left at the door. The resident called police again later that day to report that the upstairs neighbor came pounding on her door. An officer spoke to the upstairs neighbor and her daughter, who were not receptive to anything the officer told them.

COMPLAINTS

A resident reported seeing a red Jeep Cherokee eastbound on St. Mary’s Parkway at Cherrywood Road at 11:15 a.m. June 7. The driver sped up just as children were attempting to cross the street. The license plate numbers provided indicated no record on file. The area was checked with negative results. 

A complainant advised police June 7 that there was a broken screen/storm door on the second level of a house on the 400 block of Checker Drive and that there were liquor bottles on the balcony. Officers found the main level of the house secure. Officers used a ladder to check the balcony and found the storm door window broken, but the main door was locked and secure. An officer contacted the bank, which will have someone come out to make repairs.

A  official requested that a person be removed from the store because he was belligerent and sarcastic to the employees at 1:20 a.m. June 8. An officer spoke with the person, who then apologized and left the store.

FOUND ITEM

A resident reported that when she returned home at 10 a.m. June 6, she found a bed frame and black duffle bag on the driveway next to the garage. The bag contained a pre-lit Christmas tree complete with instruction manual and extra cords.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 600 block of Hapsfield reported June 7 that someone spray-painted words on the building’s west-side door. Management was notified to remove the words. 

SUSPICIOUS PERSON/PHONE CALLS

A resident of the 300 block of Gardenia Lane reported he received a phone call from his baby sitter who said there was an unknown man at the front door at 9 a.m. June 7. The man was wearing a blue shirt and blue pants and displayed a badge. The baby sitter did not open the door and the man left. Officers checked the area with negative results. 

A resident reported receiving a message on her answering machine June 7 telling her that she had won a prize. She then received a call telling her that she won a prize and that she needed to be at home to collect it. She told the caller she was not interested and hung up. The resident was concerned that the caller knew where she lived. An officer advised the resident to call 911 immediately should someone she does not know show up at her door.

A resident reported June 7 that he received a number of calls from a private number. When the resident answered, a collections agent advised that he owed money due to a bounced check. The resident knew that he does not owe any money, but he asked where to send the money. The caller stated that he should go to Walmart and get a gift card. The resident hung up.

A complainant reported a female subject was selling cookies at 4:20 p.m. June 7 near Olive Hill Drive and Prairie Road. Officers located the person, who stated that she had gone to  to visit some of her past teachers and brought cookies for them. She said that she had cookies leftover and offered them to people as she walked home. She said that she did not think she was doing anything wrong, but she understood how people might find her actions strange. She was taken home.

THEFT

A resident of the 200 block of Selwyn Lane reported that someone took his daughter’s purple Trek 21-speed mountain bike between 5:30 p.m. June 5 and 10:30 p.m. June 6. The bike had been left on the sidewalk in front of the house and was unsecured. 

A  manager reported June 7 that a delivery driver was terminated because he falsified records regarding miles traveled for deliveries. This falsification cost the restaurant $1,000 over a five-month period. The terminated employee has agreed to repay the money.

An office manager at  advised that someone stole a recently installed digital cable television converter box between May 1 and May 7. The converter box was located on a television in the therapy workout room.
