Police Blotter: Car Windows Smashed, TV Arrives by Shopping Cart

ANIMALS

A resident reported Oct. 10 there were a number of abandoned kittens by the chimney at the rear of her house. An officer retrieved four kittens and they were turned over to an animal rescue service.

DAMAGE/BURLGARY TO VEHICLES

Someone smashed the windows of five vehicles between 7 p.m. Oct. 9 and 8:50 a.m. while they were parked on Old Oak Drive. A radar detector was taken from one car, and a navigation system was removed from another. Other vehicle owners reported nothing missing.

DISPUTE

An official at reported that a customer opened a container of over-the-counter medication and swallowed two pills while still in the store at 3:45 a.m. Oct. 11. An officer spoke with the customer who stated that he didn’t know what he did was a problem and he paid for the pills without incident.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident of the 100 block of Woodstone Drive reported that she placed a large black bag of garbage at the curb at 9 p.m. Oct. 9 and at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 10 she found the garbage gone and replaced with a Jewel shopping cart with a Sony TV in it. The shopping cart was returned to and the TV was placed into property at the police station.

THEFT

An official at a company on the 1200 block of West Dundee Road reported that a notebook computer was taken from the business between 3 p.m. Oct. 8 and 7 a.m. Oct. 10. There were no signs of forced entry and only the cleaning crew had access over the weekend.

A security officer at a business on the 1200 block of Barclay Boulevard reported Oct. 1 that a former employee has been stealing from the company by shipping and receiving products using the company’s FedEx and Westlaw accounts since April 28. The loss to the company is $1,390.13. The company has sent letters to the former employee, asking him to stop his activity and the make restitution. The letters have gone unanswered and attempts to contact him by phone have failed.
