No Charges Filed After Stone Calls Braiman After 2 a.m.

No criminal charges will be filed following a complaint from Village President Jeff Braiman regarding a middle-of-the-night phone call he received Sunday from Lisa Stone. 

Braiman reported at 9:35 a.m. Jan. 13 that Stone called his home at 2:36 a.m. that day. The call went to the answering machine, where the caller began to leave a message identifying herself  as “the former trustee, Lisa Stone, the honest one,” according to the police report. At that point, Braiman’s wife picked up the phone, asked who was calling and said to Stone, “How dare you call, go to hell,” according to the report.

Braiman told police that Stone had visited his Arlington Heights law office two weeks prior to the phone call to deliver a business card for her sex toy business. Braiman did not report that visit to Arlington Heights police, he told Buffalo Grove officers. He told police Jan. 13 that the situation with Stone “appears to be escalating,” and that he wanted to pursue criminal complaints. 

Buffalo Grove police consulted with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office on Jan. 14, providing information about the Jan. 13 incident as well as Stone’s recent visit to Braiman’s law office.

Buffalo Grove police and an assistant state’s attorney concluded that neither of the complaints that might apply — disorderly conduct and harassment by telephone — warranted a charge against Stone.

Buffalo Grove police also contacted Stone on Jan. 14 to warn her that she will face criminal charges if she continues to contact the Braimans.

Stone told police that she placed the early morning phone call to tell Braiman “the village website was not working and because he is an elected official he should be available in an emergency.”

“I explained that it was 2:30 a.m. when she called,” the officer wrote in the report. “Ms. Stone said she understood.”
