Updated: Five Injured in Crash at Buffalo Grove and Lake-Cook Roads

Five people were injured Friday afternoon in a two-car crash that shut down most of the intersection of Lake-Cook and Buffalo Grove roads.

Police and paramedics responded to the accident, which occurred at 2:25 p.m. Aug. 9 when a teenage boy driving a Honda Accord turned north onto Buffalo Grove Road from eastbound Lake-Cook, into the path of a Honda Odyssey traveling west on Lake-Cook, Buffalo Grove Cpl. Vince Positano said.

Five of the six people in the Honda Odyssey were taken by ambulance to Condell and Northwest Community hospitals after complaining of back and neck pain, he said. The sixth passenger of the van, and the driver and a passenger in the Accord were not injured, he said.

Southbound Buffalo Grove Road was completely shut down, and northbound Buffalo Grove Road and east and westbound lanes on Lake-Cook were closed for about 45 minutes, Positano said. Paramedics from Arlington Heights and Long Grove assisted the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.

The driver of the Accord, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was charged with failure to yield, Positano said. The driver of the Odyssey will later be charged with driving without a valid license, he said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
