International Space Station to Fly Over Buffalo Grove Sunday Night

The Space Station will appear over the village at 6:07 p.m. Feb. 24, NASA reports.

The International Space Station will fly over Buffalo Grove at 6:07 p.m. Feb. 24, according to NASA.

If the sky is clear, viewers can watch it travel for six minutes, as it approaches from the northwest and disappears into the east.

It will reach a maximum height of 42 degrees, NASA reports.

If the sky is clear enough, the International Space Station will look, to the naked eye, like a bright, "fast-moving plane," NASA says. While not filmed in Buffalo Grove, the attached YouTube video gives an example of an ISS flyby.

Crews aboard the station are conducting a number of studies, including experimenting with space medicine and learning about gravity’s affect on life. "They also observe and study the Earth and space," according to NASA.

While NASA's alert is specifically for Buffalo Grove tonight, the International Space Station can be viewed by those in other locations. Spaceweather.com allows you to input your ZIP code to learn what satellites will be visible for your location at a given day and time.
