Indian Trails Hosts eReader Comparison, Demonstration

If you are looking for books to download to your e-reader, the is the place for you. The library will host an eReader Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 7, when staff will demonstrate how to download eBooks from the library’s digital collection to eReaders, tablets, smartphones and computers. Staff will also troubleshoot any electonic device problems patrons may have involving the downloading of library materials.

If you are considering an eReader purchase, several devices, including eReaders and tablets, will be available for “test-drives” to determine which bets fits your specific needs. In addition, the library also offers Kindles, Nooks and Nook Color units for patron checkout. All units are pre-loaded with several popular books.

Every day, more books are available in eBook format. Amazon has announced that their eBook sales surpassed their paperback sales. According to book publishing trade sources, 15 percent to 20 percent of all book sales were expected to be electronic this holiday season. By the end of 2012, this figure is projected to reach 25 percent.

In addition to eBooks, the library offers free downloadable audio books, videos, and music. The music is available through Freegal, a recently added service that allows patrons to download and keep up to three songs a week. The selections become part of the patron’s music library and do not have to be returned. The Freegal music library will also be featured at the eReader Extravaganza on Jan. 7.
