Another Arlington Heights Road Project About to Begin

As the Lake County Department of Transportation prepares for next week's construction project, Buffalo Grove police are warning drivers to find alternative routes.

Yet another construction project will begin next week on Arlington Heights Road.

The Lake County Highway Department will start replacement of the bridge deck and beams on northbound Arlington Heights Road at Buffalo Creek, according to a press release from the , which is urging motorists to avoid the road by using alternate routes. The project will run about one-quarter mile north of Lake-Cook Road.

Construction will begin with the closure of the northbound lanes, medians and turn lanes. All traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes in the construction zone, which will be limited to one lane in each direction from Checker Road to Lake-Cook Road.

"We have to take the top of the bridge off and put a new one on," Al Giertych, assistant Lake County engineer, said. "It just reached the end of its lifespan."

Northbound traffic will be limited to one lane until Aug. 1, he said. The southbound lanes will not be affected.

The project is expected to cause additional traffic delays. Also underway is the .

Buffalo Grove police are reminding drivers that all cell phone use in construction zones is prohibited. Fines for using a cell phone start at $375.
