Empty Storefronts: What Would You Like to See Here?

When Dominick's closed Saturday, it left the largest storefront in the Chase Plaza shopping center vacant. What would you like to see move into this space and others in that shopping center?

When the Dominick's on Lake-Cook Road closed its doors Dec. 28, 1160 W. Lake-Cook Road became the latest available storefront in the Chase Plaza shopping center.

Other vacant spaces include are storefronts formerly occupied by Photo Land, Betty Schwartz's Intimate Boutique and Burdeen's Jewelry, which recently moved to a newly constructed freestanding building across the street.

What business would you like to see take over the anchor space vacated by Dominick's? What ideas do you have for the adjacent storefronts? Tell us in the comment section below.

It's so sad to see what Safeway did to Dominicks . All they had to do was offer product the customers wanted at fair prices, but instead they made a statement that Chicago would learn to buy groceries their way . I wonder what that idiot Steve Burd is saying now ? Greg

Please, let it not be another shoe store, fitness center, or (gasp) children's center.

We need some sort of grocery store there are none conveniently located to the 4 subdivisions (2 Buffalo Grove , 1 Long Grove & 1 Arlington Heights) - I'd even take a 7-11, somewhere to run to when you need milk or bread etc. Also throw in a Hallmark - what happened to them? Also we will miss Starbucks but how about a Gloria Jean - better coffee

Why wouldn't Marian's want to go into that space? It seems ideal for a great supermarket. No one went to Dominicks as they dd not offer anything special - would love to have Mariano's at the corner of Lake Cook Rd. & Arlington Heights Rd. Mariano's if you listening please come!!!!!!!

A national chain would be perfect. Kroger?? As far as the rest of the stores maybe our Deputy Village Manager should answer that question since it is in her job description to bring new business to town. What kind of business types has she talked to?

I agree...so sad to see what Safeway let happen to Dominick's. The location at Lake Cook and Arlington Hts was a beautiful store!! I would love to see an "upscale" grocer go in there. Maybe a Fresh Market! Definitely need a food store there to replace the Dominicks. The Village of BG needs to do something NOW and AGGRESSIVE to get some stores to fill the vacancies there!! Think about the businesses that are currently there and depend on the flow of traffic from Dominicks to sustain their own businesses. If that means working with the developer to work out some deals, so be it. It would be really awful to see that entire strip become empty.

This is so sad, many people are unemployed (my son included) due to the store closings. I am crossing my fingers that another grocery store goes into the BG Road and Dundee location. The store is only 10 years old and is a beautiful store. There is no other grocery in this area and one is desperately needed. Now there are two large store fronts empty (formerly Rogan's) in this vacinty. I agree with you Betty, The village needs to work agressively with the developers to get something into the former Dominick's locations. Not only is it depressing seeing these empty store fronts, but the other businesses in the area will suffer.

When you look at BG as a whole there are SO many empty store fronts. It's terrible - it's like the village is purposely letting south Buffalo Grove go to hell just so they can sell that dam new development on the golf course - Be creative BG Village think what you can do with all those empty store fronts don't look for another new development to solve problems it will just create more. If Fresh Fields is not going into the old Rogans location why not develop that area or the Domincks into a mini Deer park - bring in an Old Navy, Justice, pottery barn, coffee shop, high end hair salon, places where young people shop and parents bring their kids

I am still hoping for Caputo's to open up in BG. I especially think it would be a huge draw for the Chase Plaza location.

Garden Fresh will soon be moving into the Dominick's store at BG & Dundee.

Pj, re Caputo -- not enough space. Aee their model in Palatine on Rand Road just south of Hicks intersection. Donna, Garden Fresh. -- Liquor license is key. Believe they may need the revenue per sq.ft. to cover new rent and holdover rent in Wheeling which will eventually be vacated. BG grocery competition will get hot and heavy, with margins sliced

OK, They have a Liquor license at their other locations, I don't see that being a problem. I asked at the Wheeling location and they are definitely moving there. It will do for them what Moving to that area did for Nino's Pizza.

hopefully the chase plaza will bring in MARIANO'S or a variety of higher end stores as Long Grove is just across the street - we need some upscale places in the chase plaza. why is nothing be done it is a great location for a starbucks drive-thru or even a McDonald's. It's such a busy intersection with easy in out access in all directions and Lake cook is always packed. but we also need a grocery store or convenience store in there
