District 214 Summer School Registration Underway

All classes will be held at Wheeling and Rolling Meadows high schools this year.

Registration is underway for District 214’s Summer School Program, which has been redesigned to better aid student academic success. The program consists primarily of core courses that are required for graduation and available to students who are repeating a course for a higher grade. Offering core courses increases the likelihood that freshmen and sophomore students will makeup lost credits and continue at grade level.

“Core courses taken during the school year give students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of course content as well as prepare students to be successful on the state standardized Prairie State Assessment Exam and the ACT,” said Rosemary Gonzalez Pinnick, associate superintendent for educational services. “Our schools are not only improving processes for monitoring student learning but also are implementing timely and appropriate interventions. Consequently, the summer program has changed accordingly.”

Other summer courses being offered include information processing, e-consumerism, junior and senior compass learning online, and driver’s education, to name a few. Unlike previous years, summer school will be held at only two schools — Rolling Meadows and Wheeling — this year. The Sundown Academy, an evening program for all students, also will be held at Rolling Meadows High School, four nights per week for six weeks. Space is limited, so register early.
