An incident involving a train caused delays with Metra trains, school buses and other traffic around Route 22 Friday afternoon.

A person was hit by a train Friday afternoon near the Prairie View Metra station, according to multiple reports.

Inbound and outbound Metra trains operating on the North Central line have been delayed by up to 95 minutes, according to the Metra website, which cites a “pedestrian incident” as the cause.

Lake County Passage reported at 4:21 p.m. that Route 22 east and west of Prairie Road was closed due to a crash. No other information was provided, and Lake County Passage reported that the road had reopened at 5:30 p.m.

Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 also alerted parents by email at 4:21 p.m. that all traffic, including school buses, were delayed because a pedestrian had been “hit by a passing train,” according to a message from Superintendent Scott Warren.

“All of our students are safe on our buses. We will update you as we gather additional information,” Warren wrote. 

Stevenson High School buses were also delayed Friday afternoon, spokesman Jim Conrey said. He said he expected that students arrived home by 5 p.m. Friday was the last day of class before winter break.
