Long Grove Man Charged in Sept. 5 Crash that Killed Buffalo Grove Woman

The accident occurred at Route 83 and Westmoreland near Vernon Hills.

A 22-year-old Long Grove man has been charged with reckless homicide in relation to a Sept. 5 accident near Vernon Hills that resulted in the death of a Buffalo Grove woman.

Stephen E. Tomczyk, of the 3200 block of Middlesax Avenue in Long Grove, was also charged with two counts of aggravated DUI-drugs resulting in death, along with two counts of aggravated DUI-drugs resulting great bodily harm, said Sgt. Sara Balmes of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

His bond was set at $500,000.

Tomczyk was driving a 2007 red Ford F150 that collided at Route 83 and Westmoreland with a blue 2011 Honda CRV driven by Jeewon Kim, 47, of Buffalo Grove. Kim sustained multiple traumatic injuries in the crash, according to Lake County Senior Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo. 

Tomczyk is set to appear in court Dec. 2.
