An Illinois State Police trooper from Vernon Hills was the victim of a fatal car crash early Friday morning. James Sauter was on duty in his squad car when his vehicle was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer at I-294 southbound at Willow Road. An Arlington Heights woman is dead after a Wednesday collision between her passenger vehicle and a Freightliner sem-trailer truck at Palatine and Wheeling roads in Wheeling. The crash occurred at 11:26 p.m., according to a press release from the Wheeling Police Department, and involved the 2010 semi-trailer and a 2002 Mazda Protoge driven by the 55-year-old woman. Deputy Chief John Teevans of the Wheeling Police Department said the identity of the victim will be withheld until all family notifications have been made.
