Both candidates for Buffalo Grove’s two-year trustee term agree that an improved business climate should be a priority for the village. Denice Bocek and Andrew Stein shared with attendees at Tuesday’s Chamber of Commerce meeting their ideas on how the village’s retail environment could be strengthened. Bocek said she’d like to see an improved presence for Buffalo Grove’s retail stores and restaurants. “I think people are so trained to shop in some of the neighboring communities,” she said. She said that “rebranding” the village as a destination for consumers could also serve an incentive for new businesses to come to town. The Village Board approved the appointment of Eric Smith to an interim trustee position Monday night. Smith said he will not run for elected office.
The Buffalo Grove Village Board unanimously welcomed Eric Smith to the dais Monday night. Smith, who replaces recalled Trustee Lisa Stone, immediately took the Oath of Office and jumped into action, chiming in to adopt the village's 2011 budget and joining his new colleagues' discussion regarding recent ordinance violations by Adam's Roadhouse. "I really appreciate the confidence that you've shown in me to step in and help the village move forward," Smith told the board following his appointment. "I look forward to representing my fellow citizens and representing the board as we are about to begin a new year." Elliott Hartstein will ask the Village Board on Monday to approve the appointment of Eric Smith.
Buffalo Grove Village President Elliott Hartstein announced Sunday that he will recommend the appointment of Eric Smith to the vacant seat on the Village Board. Smith is vice chairman of the plan commission, on which he has served for 11 years. In the past he has served as president of the Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce, president of the Buffalo Grove Rotary and on the village's Appearance Commission and Board of Health. Hartstein said that he has solicited informal feedback from village trustees, and he expects that Smith's appointment will be accepted at Monday night's meeting.
