Local Businesses Bend Schneider’s Ear

New North Shore representative takes listening tour of nine companies on his first trip back to the 10th District after becoming a member of Congress.

From the time Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) started running for the House of Representatives in May, 2011, he touted his background as a management consultant as a reason he would be an effective member of Congress. In his first extensive interview with Patch a month later, he promised to listen to the needs of companies in the 10th Congressional District and advocate for them in Washington. Walgreens Puts Corporate Citizenship on Display

Toys for Tots is just one of many ways the Deerfield based company gets involved in local communities.

Walgreens corporate citizenship was on display Monday when employees at the company’s Deerfield corporate headquarters helped two United States Marines load a truck full of holiday gifts as part of the Toys for Tots program. The drive took place not only at the corporate headquarters but at Walgreens 8,000 stores throughout the country with the toys staying in the local communities throughout the nation. The Heat Is On

Buffalo Grove-area organizations see the effects of 90-degree temperatures.

With temperatures projected to remain above 90 degrees this week, Buffalo Grove businesses and organizations are seeing firsthand the effects of the heat wave. “We’re selling a lot more fans and Gatorade, and a lot more ice, too,” Paul Lievhart, manager of the Walgreens at the corner of Buffalo Grove and Lake-Cook roads, said Monday. “Everything that you can drink in aisle eight, such as juice and water, is just going out the door.” Lievhart noted that customers are also purchasing items in bulk, such as 24-packs of bottled water. Binny’s Beverage Depot has also seen a shift in product sales. A customer service manager noted that margaritas, water and mixers are big sellers.
