'X the Text'

A Stevenson High School sophomore is spreading the word to stop texting and driving.

Oprah may have started it, but Kalei Sorenson, a sophomore at Stevenson High School, is helping to finish it. They are both working hard to stop people from texting while driving. Kalei was trying to think of ways to satisfy her leadership/community service hours that she needs for school. She researched online and learned that other high schools were spreading the "Texting Kills" message. With more digging, she found that Allstate Insurance Company has a great program called, "X the Text." Allstate offered Kalei amazing supplies to hand out such as "Texting Kills" thumb bands and "Put it Down and Drive" non-slip cell phone pads for the dashboard. I think this effort will help drivers get the message. It has to start with the end user, the driver...deciding not to partake in distracted driving and this will help drive that message home. I also decided to do something about teen (and adult) texting and driving after my three year old daughter was nearly run down right in front of me by a texting driver.
