Senior Cherisse Padovano of Buffalo Grove was nominated as the honoree of the Career Technology Education department by culinary arts teacher, Ronna Dec. "Cherisse is part of our ProStart program at BGHS," Dec said. "She is involved in the student-run restaurant, the Bison Grill, which serves paying customers once a month. Cherisse is a recipient of a Robert Morris Culinary School Scholarship and is a member of the National Technical Honors Society. She is a teacher intern for Foods 1 and is very involved in the art of pastry. Cherisse is a determined individual upon whom staff can rely. An exceptional student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as December Student of the Month. Junior Leila Ayoub of Arlington Heights was nominated as the honoree of the Career Technology Education department by teacher Tom Mroz. "Leila is currently in AP Computer Science and plans to pursue an engineering degree," Mroz said. "She has taken Project Lead the Way courses, as well, and is a member of the Junior Class Board. When it comes to problem solving, critical thinking, and initiative, Leila is at the top of her peers. Junior Leah Kopke of Arlington Heights was nominated as English/Fine Arts Student of the Month by English teacher, Matt Branham."Leah is an exceptional student in terms of her writing and critical thinking ability," said Branham. "She brings a unique perspective to American Literature class. Buffalo Grove High School has chosen Students of the Month for September, with selections based on the efforts and contributions of one student in each of the six divisions of the school. Senior Ryan Toher of Arlington Heights was nominated as English/Fine Arts Student of the Month by band director, Ed Jacobi. "Ryan is a remarkable musician who plays clarinet in our band and orchestra program," Jacobi said. "Last year as a junior, in his first year of eligibility, he auditioned for Illinois Music Educators Association and not only placed in the District VII Festival, but made it to All-State. Sophomore John Ser of Arlington Heights was nominated as the honoree of the Career Technology Education department by teacher and Division Head Randy Hoff. "John is a second year member of the BGHS Robotics Team," Hoff said. "His leadership and expertise helped this year's team sweep four out of the top five spots in the District 214 Annual Robot Competition. "Tracy has already completed Foods 1, Foods 2, ProStart1 and ProStart 2 and is going to be my Prostart teacher intern for the 2011/2012 school year," Dec said.
