Stevenson's Spirit Fest Aims to Break World Record, Support Charity

Saturday's event, which is open to the entire community, will benefit the Lauri S. Bauer Foundation for Sudden Loss.

School spirit and community spirit will merge Saturday for Stevenson High School’s annual Spirit Fest, a community that raises funds for a local charity.  A highlight of this year’s event will be an effort to break the world record for the most people salsa dancing while holding glow sticks. “Each person will have a green glow stick in one hand and a yellow one in another as they dance in a salsa line in the shape of an ‘S’ for Stevenson,” said Brett Erdmann, a Stevenson teacher who serves as community service coordinator and sponsor of the National Honor Society, which runs Spirit Fest. Dance students at the school have taught members of the National Honor Society (NHS) how to do the salsa. The NHS members — about 450 of them — will be on…

Stevenson Lights Up Spirit Fest, Smashes World Record

In its first nighttime appearance, Stevenson High School's annual Spirit Fest crushed the record for the world's largest glow stick design.

After an evening of music, snacks and soaking teachers in a dunk tank, 826 people arranged on Stevenson High School’s football turf shattered the world record for the largest glow stick design. With the stadium lights shut off, participants at Saturday night’s Spirit Fest held up blue glow sticks to form the letters C-A-S-A, an acronym for the nonprofit beneficiary of this year’s event. And after posing for photographic evidence to send to Guinness Book of World Records, the crowd pitched their glow sticks skyward, cheering and dancing to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem.” This is the second year that the school has broken a world record at Spirit Fest, its annual kickoff to Homecoming week. Last year, 525 attendees set the record for the …

Stevenson Moves Annual Spirit Fest To Evening

Organizers hope to break another world record at this year's event.

Spirit Fest, the annual District 125 family-friendly charity event sponsored by Stevenson High School's National Honor Society chapter, returns Sept. 17, with a twist. For the first time, Spirit Fest will be held in the evening. Spirit Fest will run from 5-10 p.m. in the SHS stadium. At the heart of Spirit Fest is helping a local charity. This year, all proceeds from the event will go to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Lake County, a non-profit organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the juvenile court system. CASA helps more than 500 children annually. The goal is to raise $25,000. Last year, Spirit Fest raised $20,000 for the Saving Tiny Hearts Society. During Spirit Fest, …

Stevenson High School Dancers Break World Record

More than 500 people danced into the record books at the school's second annual Spirit Fest. The event not only boosted school spirit for homecoming week, it raised money for a good cause.

Five hundred twenty-five human robots danced into the Guinness Book of World Records Sunday at the second annual Stevenson High School Spirit Fest. After a quick dance lesson, students, parents and others from the community lined up along the the football field yardage and shifted into quick, in sync, robotic moves to the song "Mr. Roboto" by Styx. The previous record was set by 429 dancers in London. Spirit Fest organizers well documented the event with video, pictures and precise number counting to submit to Guinness World Records for certification. "It was fun," said Stevenson freshman Ethan Rosuck. "To see everyone doing the exact same thing on a big football field — it was awesome!" National Honor Society President Kayla Reinherz said…

Stevenson High School's National Honor Society hosts an event for the Saving Tiny Hearts Society

Stevenson High School was transformed into a giant carnival yesterday as the National Honor Society hosted an amazing fundraiser for the Saving Tiny Hearts Society. Some of the highlights of Spirit Fest included sack races, face painting, bozo bucket ball, ring toss, scavenger hunts, hula dancing, tiki-toss, henna tattoos, tug o' war games, slides, bungee racing and a Velcro wall. I met so many families with young children that came out to support Stevenson as well as Saving Tiny Hearts. The first people I encountered were Buffalo Grove residents Debra and Jason Kaplan who were there with their two kids aged 4 and 2. They happened to be the sister and brother-in-law of the founders of Saving Tiny Hearts Society. They were more than happy …

Stevenson Plans to Break World Record at Spirit Fest

Hundreds needed to participate in group robot dance

Human robots are expected to invade Stevenson High School's stadium on Sunday, when hundreds of students and community members will gather on the field in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest robot dance. The activity is part of Stevenson's Spirit Fest, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19. While the event will also include the school's annual 5K walk, a new Battle of the Bands contest featuring six student bands, food, a silent auction and activities for all ages, it's the robot dance "that seems to be the buzz," said Brett Erdmann, the school's Community Service Coordinator and sponsor of National Honor Society, which runs Spirit Fest. The idea to set a world record came from students, who were …

Stevenson Spirit Fest this Sunday

National Honor Society plans a fun and charitable day

It's true. The students in the National Honor Society at Stevenson High School are smart. Not only do they have an almost perfect GPA, they also have to accrue leadership hours as well as community service hours. The other thing they do extremely well is host Spirit Fest. Spirit Fest is a day devoted to the families of District 125 in an effort to raise money for charity. This year the funds raised will go to the Saving Tiny Hearts Society, which donates 100 percent of its general donations to funding research on congenital heart defects. The founders of the group are Brian and Francie Paul. Brian is a SHS graduate and his mother taught at SHS many years ago. This year the Spirit Fest will be on Sunday, Sept. 19 and amazing activities are …
