New data released this week shows Chicago area home prices fell 0.8 percent in February.
In February, Chicago-area home prices dropped for the sixth straight month according to new data released this week by S&P/Case-Shiller. The data reflects single-family home prices fell 0.8 percent in February compared with January. However, Chicago area home sales prices were up 5.1 percent compared with Feb. 2012, which is the second smallest year-to-year increase after New York in a 20-city index provided by S&P/Case-Shiller, reported Crain's Chicago Business. “Home prices continue to show solid increases across all 20 cities,” said David M. Blitzer, chairman of the Index Committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices, in a statement. “The 10- and 20-city composites recorded their highest annual growth rates since May 2006.” Buffalo Grove home …

Crain's Chicago Business reports 20.9 percent of Buffalo Grove homeowners own their homes outright.
Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. According to the Crain's analysis, 13,483 homeowners, or 20.9 percent, own their home outright in Buffalo Grove. Data reflects nearly 138,000 homes in Illinios were in "foreclosure inventory" at the end of the first quarter, 36 percent higher than the same period last year, according to the story. Chicago Magazine reports sale prices from 2012 were slightly lower than in 2011.
Home sale prices in Buffalo Grove are slightly down, according to a recent Chicago Magazine article. The article profiled what homes cost in several suburbs and Chicago neighborhoods. The magazine’s data showed the median sale price for a home in Buffalo Grove in 2012 was $280,000, down 1.8 percent from 2011 and 32 percent since 2006. There were 304 sales last year in the village, with homes staying on the market an average of 118 days, the magazine reports.
